Israel reportedly shared intelligence with the United States revealing a fresh Iranian plot to assassinate President Donald Trump, and the president responded in exactly the way you would expect a man who types in all caps to respond: by threatening to turn Iran into a parking lot. The American Tribune reported on the escalating situation as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to climb.
Trump took to Truth Social with what might be the spiciest post the platform has ever seen, writing, "1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands of more to immediately follow, should the Iranian Government act on its threat, pronounced in many corners of the Globe, to assassinate, or attempt to assassinate, the sitting President of the United States of America, in this case, ME!" He then signed off the threat with "PRAISE BE TO ALLAH!" which is certainly a creative flourish you do not see in most diplomatic communications.
The president also told reporters he is apparently on every Iranian hit list in existence. "I'm on every list. I saw this morning, I'm on every single one of their lists. And so far, I guess I've been a little bit lucky, but that maybe doesn't last very long," he said. Nothing like a casual morning briefing where you find out you are the top entry on multiple assassination wish lists.
According to CNN, several sources indicated that some U.S. officials believe the intelligence shared by Israel could have been an attempt to influence Trump's thinking about whether to escalate military action against Iran. So either Iran genuinely wants to kill the president or Israel is trying to nudge him toward pressing the big red button. Either way, a perfectly normal day in geopolitics.
Speaking of Israel, Trump's relationship with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly gotten a little frosty. A phone call between the two leaders apparently got heated, with Trump calling Netanyahu "crazy." Netanyahu has been pushing for increased military intervention in the Middle East while Trump has been trying to preserve a ceasefire agreement. Netanyahu also reportedly urged Trump not to sell F-35 fighter jets to Turkey, citing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's comments against the existence of Israel.
The Hill reported that this intelligence comes on the heels of the funeral procession for slain Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, where mourners chanted "Death to America" and someone displayed a banner reading "We Will Kill Trump." Subtle messaging from a regime that really wants to keep the lines of diplomacy open.
Meanwhile, Trump's supporters flooded the Truth Social comments with their own warnings to Iran, with one writing, "Iran you're NOT dealing with a career politician who doesn't have the stones to follow through with his threats! You're dealing with the most Badass President who has The Peoples Backing to follow through with his threats!" The grammar may be shaky but the enthusiasm is not.
Say what you will about this administration, but it is never, ever boring.
