A veteran Fox 2 Detroit anchor was filmed dropping a profanity bomb on her boss during a heated newsroom clash.
Taryn Asher, who spent years behind the desk at WJBK-TV, was in the middle of recording a public service announcement when everything went sideways. The footage, which has now become Exhibit A in a legal war over her firing, according to reports shows her sparring with colleagues over scripts and workflow before the whole thing turned deeply personal.
On camera, Asher can be heard explaining that she was attempting to correct errors in a script called "Amy's Angels" while simultaneously preparing for broadcast. She voiced frustration about the timing of script reviews, arguing she couldn't afford to sit around waiting while also getting camera ready.
Then came the moment everyone is talking about. Asher addressed someone walking away from her, saying, "I don't think you are. You're walking out really angry." And then, clear as day, she let it rip. "Bitch."
She wasn't done either. Moments later, she demanded to finish speaking, then unleashed another expletive. "What the f--k. Grow up," she said, before declaring she was "so done" with a colleague's behavior and complaints.
The station yanked Asher off the air in November and placed her on paid leave after what Fox described as a wave of employee complaints about her conduct. The network's court filing from August 14 alleges she repeatedly used profanity toward coworkers, shouted at staff over guest interview assignments, and had multiple confrontational interactions.
One particularly spicy incident allegedly involved Asher's male co-anchor, Roop Raj. Fox claims that on October 30, Asher mistakenly believed Raj had snagged an interview she had booked. The interview was actually already assigned to her. Regardless, she allegedly raised her voice and shouted at two colleagues over the mix-up.
Things reportedly boiled over again during election night coverage on November 4. Producers had given Raj guest interviews during both the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. broadcasts, though Fox insists those decisions were made independently. One segment was later reassigned to Asher, but she still allegedly confronted Raj and told him, "You don't own politics."
Raj himself reportedly spoke with human resources afterward, claiming Asher seemed "jealous" of him and appeared to frame the situation as "men versus women."
Fox informed Asher on November 21 that she would not be returning, citing repeated outbursts and unprofessional conduct. She is now suing Fox Television Stations and New World Communications of Detroit under federal and Michigan civil rights laws, alleging sex discrimination and retaliation.
Asher's lawsuit claims the network punished her for speaking up about unequal treatment and gave male employees accused of similar behavior far lighter consequences. She denies her conduct warranted discipline or termination.
Fox disputes every one of those allegations. This legal battle is far from over, and with video evidence now in play, both sides have plenty of ammunition.
