Nothing says "Happy Fourth of July" quite like a Canadian national allegedly smacking a teenager on a New Jersey boardwalk because she didn't approve of the kid's wardrobe choices. According to The American Tribune, that is exactly what happened over the holiday weekend, and it went about as well for the attacker as you'd expect.
Kaitlyn E. Tracey, 33, a Canadian citizen living in Asbury Park, New Jersey, allegedly spotted a group of four girls on the Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk on July 3 and took offense at two of the minors wearing "patriotic colored" sweatpants featuring the words "Trump" and "ICE." Rather than doing what normal adults do when they see clothing they dislike (rolling their eyes and walking away), Tracey reportedly decided to record herself confronting the group and then escalated to slapping one of the teens across the face and body. Surveillance footage captured the alleged assault before Tracey fled the scene.
Law enforcement identified Tracey and obtained an arrest warrant. She turned herself in on July 6, 2026, and was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault, and harassment and obstruction. The New York Post reported that the teen she allegedly assaulted was not injured.
Now here is where the story gets truly poetic. The sweatpants said "ICE" on them. And wouldn't you know it, ICE is exactly who came knocking. On July 13, Tracey was detained by immigration officials and sent to Delaney Hall, an immigration detention center in Newark, New Jersey. Tracey had entered the United States with a passport in 2024.
Her husband, Matthew Geroni, an American citizen who married Tracey "a little over three years ago," announced the detention in a TikTok video. "Yesterday, July 13, my wife was detained by ICE and brought to Delaney Hall in Newark, NJ," Geroni told his 140,000 followers. He notably did not mention anything about his wife allegedly hitting a teenage girl, claiming the situation has been taken out of context. "My main goal is the safety and well-being of my wife, and that is about it," he stated.
Geroni, who describes himself as the "Clown of Asbury Park" and the "Jester of the Jersey Shore" and routinely posts videos mocking Republicans, attempted to set up a GoFundMe for his wife's legal expenses. That lasted about as long as you'd expect before a group of Trump supporters mass reported it into oblivion.
Geroni also claimed that officers initially told his wife to simply leave the boardwalk after the incident because they lacked enough evidence to charge her. That assessment apparently changed once they reviewed the surveillance footage.
Tracey's first court appearance is scheduled for August 4, 2026. One imagines her attorney will advise against wearing anything with writing on it.
