The CEO of a biotechnology company is suing rideshare giant Uber, claiming he was attacked by one of its drivers and left with a brain injury.
Bryan Kobel, CEO of TC BioPharm, claims the attack happened after a dispute with a South Carolina driver in April. Kobel explained the conversation started as “innocuous,” but quickly escalated when the driver allegedly knocked him unconscious.
Kobel said he reported everything to Uber, then around 48-72 hours later found out his account had been deactivated. Kobel says Uber fails to vet its drivers, and assumed they do background checks. NY Post quote Kobel saying: “You would have assumed, and I had up until that date, that they [Uber] do background checks. They vet these individuals. That they’ve got a stringent process that’s difficult to evade, and apparently that’s not the case.”
The driver, Vadim Uliumdzhiev, is a 42-year-old Russian national who came to America illegally. He was charged with second-degree assault and battery, then placed in ICE custody, according to NY Post.
