ICE is BUSTING Somali fraudsters in Minnesota

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently carried out "Operation Metro Surge" in Minneapolis, an enforcement action that led to the arrest of 12 individuals. Five of those arrested were Somali nationals.

ICE described those apprehended as "worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens" with histories of various offenses, including assault, domestic violence, and fraud.

The operation gained significant political attention due to its timing amid ongoing federal investigations into massive, multi-million-dollar social service fraud schemes in Minnesota, in which many individuals charged are of Somali descent.

One arrested individual had prior convictions for asylum and welfare fraud, which the Department of Homeland Security used to highlight alleged connections to local Democratic politicians and suggest broader complicity in local government.

The ICE crackdown has sparked considerable fear and controversy in the Minneapolis Somali community.

Local officials like Mayor Jacob Frey have criticized the federal actions, refusing city cooperation with the immigration enforcement operations, which they argue target the community while investigations into the separate criminal fraud cases are ongoing.
