Nothing says "team player" quite like allegedly stonewalling your own party's investigation for four solid months. According to The American Tribune, John Solomon, who runs Just The News, dropped some pretty spicy accusations on Steve Bannon's War Room podcast on August 5, 2026, calling out Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senator Tom Cotton by name for refusing to hand over transcripts that the Justice Department has been begging for since late January.
Solomon was not shy about pointing fingers. He said he could state "with 100% certainty" that Republicans are getting in the way of the weaponization investigation. The transcripts in question involve former CIA Director John Brennan's interviews before Senate Intelligence Committee hearings, and prosecutors down in Florida apparently need them to figure out whether charges against Brennan are justified. But Thune and Cotton have reportedly been sitting on those documents like a dragon hoarding gold, except less cool and more bureaucratic.
Here's where it gets even more ridiculous. Solomon also took a shot at acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, wondering aloud why the DOJ hasn't just slapped a subpoena on the Senate to force compliance. He pointed out that in every comparable situation throughout American history, from Watergate to Iran-Contra, the Justice Department went ahead and subpoenaed Congress when lawmakers refused to cooperate. But apparently Blanche, who Solomon noted wants the AG job permanently, hasn't pulled that trigger. Interesting strategy for a job interview.
The backstory here is that back in April 2026, Just The News reported the DOJ had formally requested transcripts and records from both the Senate Judiciary Committee and Senate Intelligence Committee related to Brennan. The materials connected to the January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment about Russian election interference, which touched on the infamous Steele dossier and allegations of collusion involving Trump's 2016 campaign. Assistant Attorney General Patrick Davis reportedly sent multiple letters asking for fully unredacted copies of classified and unclassified transcripts, depositions, briefings, and witness responses. Those letters included a compliance deadline of February 23, 2026.
February came and went. Then March. Then April. By mid-April, the Senate still hadn't transmitted anything. Meanwhile, the House had already voted to send over similar evidence, making the Senate's silence look even more awkward by comparison.
The whole effort supports a grand jury investigation based in Fort Pierce, Florida, which is examining whether officials from both the Obama and Biden administrations conspired to misuse law enforcement and intelligence tools. Former U.S. Attorney and Independent Counsel Joe diGenova is reportedly playing a central role in that Florida probe.
Solomon called the entire situation "ridiculous" from both a political and practical perspective, saying a grand jury subpoena should already be sitting in the Senate clerk's office and a court case should have been filed yesterday. An eight-month delay caused by two members of your own party is certainly one way to demonstrate unity.
