Buckle up, folks, because the receipts are IN and they are absolutely wild.
Exactly twelve months ago, the nation's capital was basically a cautionary tale. Gang activity was flourishing within spitting distance of the Capitol building. People were getting carjacked in the middle of the afternoon. Congressional interns were losing their lives to violent crime. Washington D.C. looked like a poster child for every city that thought gutting police budgets was somehow smart governance.
Then Donald Trump stepped in and flooded the District with federal law enforcement. The Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force just celebrated its first anniversary on Tuesday, and as USA Journal reported, the statistics coming out of this operation should have progressive mayors across the country sweating bullets.
Here come the numbers, and they hit HARD. Over 16,000 people arrested. Thirty five suspected murderers hauled into custody. More than 100 confirmed gang members pulled off neighborhood streets. Roughly 3,200 drug busts completed. Close to 2,000 illegal firearms confiscated. Oh, and 25 missing children located and brought back to their families.
Let that sink in for a second. Twenty five kids. Retrieved. Returned safely. That single statistic justifies every penny spent on this entire initiative.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche laid it out without sugarcoating anything, stating that thousands of illegal weapons and narcotics were removed from communities while dangerous violent offenders faced justice. He promised the operation would continue until every D.C. neighborhood is secure.
Now here is the part that makes this truly delicious from a political standpoint. Critics on the left swore up and down that this approach would fail miserably. They lectured everyone about how arrests never solve crime problems. They pointed to poverty, inequality, and systemic racism as the real culprits. They delivered these talking points with absolute certainty despite being repeatedly proven wrong on policing strategies.
Meanwhile, the task force was born after horrific acts of violence that nobody could pretend away. A 21 year old congressional intern named Eric Tarpinian was killed. A 14 year old boy was fatally shot in a case connected to MS-13 gang members. These were real human beings whose lives were stolen.
The takeaway from this experiment could not be more straightforward. Visible and aggressive policing in areas plagued by violent crime actually produces results. It is not some complicated formula. It is basic cause and effect, proven in real time with massive data backing it up.
While certain politicians like Mamdani push to defund police in New York, and El-Sayed's allies champion identical policies in Michigan, and Wisconsin's Francesca Hong vowed to confront ICE with "force and fury," Trump's D.C. operation just showed America what the opposite playbook delivers.
Sixteen thousand arrests. Twenty five children home. The scoreboard does not lie.
