There is something deeply amusing about the President of the United States watching cable news at 35,000 feet and getting so fired up that he has to immediately post about it. That is exactly what happened when Jessica Tarlov, the designated liberal on Fox News' "The Five," cited Trump's 35% approval rating during a segment on April 16th, and Trump decided to respond from Air Force One with the subtlety of a freight train.
As The American Tribune reported, Trump took to Truth Social and wrote, "I am watching one of the Least Attractive and Talented People on all of Television, Jessica Tarlov." He continued by saying, "Her voice is so grating and terrible, I had to 'turn her off!'" Which raises the obvious question: if you turned her off, how did you watch enough to write a multi-paragraph response? That is a mystery for the ages.
Tarlov had argued during the segment that Americans did not want Trump's tariffs, did not want a war in Iran, and did not want his White House ballroom. Trump fired back that he had "among the best Poll Numbers" he has ever had, asking, "Why shouldn't I," before adding, "ALL THE COUNTRY DOES IS WIN." He then demanded Fox take her off the air, writing, "GET HER OFF THE AIR, SHE IS BAD FOR OUR COUNTRY!" The caps lock key on that man's phone has never known a day of rest.
TV Insider reported that Tarlov responded later that night on X, writing, "Guess I'll take this opportunity to mention that my numbers are far from fake – Trump really is that unpopular." She then pivoted seamlessly into promoting her upcoming book, "I Disagree," which was available for preorder. Nothing says "I am unbothered" quite like turning a presidential insult into a Barnes and Noble sales pitch. Honestly, respect the hustle.
Newsweek reported that Tarlov pointed to polling from The Economist and YouGov showing Trump underwater nationally. Trump, naturally, insisted those numbers were fake.
The whole thing also dragged in Candace Owens, whom Trump labeled "FAKE MAGA" in the same Truth Social blast. Owens posted a screenshot of his remarks and asked if someone could send her the news segment that caused the "meltdown," adding, "Looks like he may have accidentally heard the truth?" So now Trump is catching strays from his own side, which is always entertaining.
This was not even the first time Trump has gone after Tarlov. Earlier in April, he called on Fox executives to remove her. He also criticized her during a call-in appearance on "The Five" when she was not even on set, telling Jesse Watters he was "not a fan" of her.
So to recap: the President watched a cable news panel from Air Force One, got mad about a polling number, called the host unattractive and untalented, demanded she be fired, accidentally gave her book a massive publicity boost, and alienated Candace Owens in the process. A productive flight by any measure.
