White House border czar Tom Homan got visibly emotional during a recent interview about the safety of ICE agents, and honestly, the details he shared are the kind of thing that makes you wonder what exactly is going wrong in this country when a federal official cannot buy milk without a security detail.
As Trending Politics reported, Homan spoke about the increasing dangers facing Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, noting that the threats have expanded well beyond the agents themselves and now target their families. He stressed that the people doing this work are not faceless government drones but regular folks with kids and spouses who would very much like them to come home in one piece.
"You know, guys, ICE agents are mom and dads, too," Homan said. "They don't hang their heart on a hook every day to do this job. And it's just not attacking the ICE agents, it's attacking their spouses and children, and no one knows that better than me."
Then came the grocery store line, which really drives the whole thing home. "I can't even go get a quart of milk at a grocery store without a security detail," Homan said. "Why? Because I'm enforcing laws in this country. It's pathetic and it's disgusting."

The emotional remarks come amid a genuinely dangerous stretch for ICE personnel. Two recent fatal officer involved shootings in Maine and Texas prompted the agency to temporarily pause most vehicle stops while leadership reviewed training and tactics. Body cameras are now being rolled out to all ICE field offices nationwide as part of an effort to improve both transparency and officer protection.
The vehicle stop pause did not last long. President Trump directed ICE to resume the practice, calling traffic stops an important tool for locating individuals in the country illegally or wanted for immigration violations. Homan defended the decision while maintaining that officer safety remains the top priority.
Beyond the physical dangers, Homan pointed to doxxing, online harassment, and direct threats targeting agents and their families as ongoing problems. Administration officials have argued that heated rhetoric around immigration enforcement has made the environment significantly more dangerous for the people actually doing the work.
Say what you want about immigration policy, and people certainly do, but threatening someone's kids because you disagree with federal law enforcement is not exactly the moral high ground anyone should be claiming. There is a difference between protesting a policy and making a family fear for their safety. One is democracy. The other is just being terrible.
