Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce tied the knot at Madison Square Garden, and the internet wasted absolutely no time pointing out that the mega pop star's wedding security setup looked suspiciously like, well, a border wall. A video clip going viral on X showed NYPD officers erecting barriers around the entire venue perimeter, as reported by The American Tribune, while guests were required to show photo ID just to get through. Walls and ID requirements at a venue in a sanctuary city. You truly cannot make this stuff up.
Arizona state Rep. John Gillette was among the first to pounce, posting on X: "So she is building a wall, providing security for that wall, making people show ID to get past that wall. That adds up to a sound border plan for her wedding. She demands open borders for the rest of us… little people. She is just another communist and he [Travis Kelce] will be licking her boot in no time."
Another X user dragged New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani into the conversation, noting that the city allegedly could not afford extra NYPD coverage for an Independence Day celebration in Times Square on July 3. "Couldn't have extra celebration on July 3 and 4th in Times Square because the communist mayor said we couldn't afford the NYPD tab! But we can afford to fund NYPD for a billionaire's wedding??????" the user asked. Apparently there is always money in the budget when a billionaire needs crowd control for her reception.
User Leigh also took a shot at the ID requirement: "How dare she ask for ID? She's setting back people who can't get it." Meanwhile, another person wondered whether the Garden was complying with Mamdani's order to keep building thermostats at 78 degrees. "Also, do you think they have the air-conditioning at 78° in the garden?" Because nothing says equity like sweating through your tuxedo while a pop star enjoys climate-controlled luxury.
The White House got in on the fun too. According to a report from The New York Post, the official White House X account posted "IT'S HAPPENED!!!" alongside a fake photograph showing massive purple digital signs outside MSG reading "Trump is your president." Subtle stuff from the communications team over there.
Of course, Trump himself has had a complicated relationship with Swift. He famously posted "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!" in all caps on Truth Social after she endorsed Kamala Harris for president during the 2024 election. But the president softened his stance after the couple announced their engagement in August 2025, telling his Cabinet, "No, I think he's a great player, I think he's a great guy. I think that she's a terrific person. So I wish them a lot of luck."
One X user summed up the conservative mood with a meme of a peacefully sleeping baby and the caption, "How I sleep knowing that Trump will still be the president in the morning."
So to recap: walls work, ID requirements are apparently fine, and massive police presence is totally justified, as long as the person writing the check is famous enough. Good to know the rules.
