Supreme Court Rejects Trump Appeal in E. Jean Carroll Case

The Supreme Court just refused to touch Trump's appeal in the E. Jean Carroll lawsuit.

The nation's highest court on Monday turned away Trump's bid to overturn a $5 million jury verdict from May 2023, which held him liable for sexual abuse and defamation, as reported in an unsigned order with zero explanation. No noted dissents. No indication of how any individual justice voted. Nothing.

And that is what makes this whole thing absolutely wild.

Three of the justices on this court were nominated by Trump himself. Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito are also sitting right there. Yet not a single one of them publicly broke ranks to suggest this case even deserved a closer look. The order just says no, and everyone moves on like nothing happened.

Let's talk about what actually went down in this case, because it is bananas. Carroll alleged that Trump assaulted her at a department store sometime during the mid-1990s. No specific date. No physical evidence. No corroborating witnesses. A dress she claimed to have been wearing during the alleged incident was later scrutinized because it reportedly was not even in production when the media originally placed the event. And the entire lawsuit was only possible because New York Democrats passed the Adult Survivors Act, a law that opened a window for claims that were otherwise completely dead under normal statute of limitations rules.

On top of the $5 million from this verdict, Carroll also secured a jaw-dropping $83.3 million judgment in a separate proceeding related to Trump's public denials of her allegations, which courts treated as defamation. Add those together and you get over $88 million in total civil liability, all stemming from one person's account with no supporting evidence, regarding something that allegedly took place decades ago.

Trump has denied the allegations consistently throughout.

Now here is where the political double standard becomes impossible to ignore. The very same legal and media institutions that elevated Carroll's claims without question have historically extended every possible benefit of the doubt to figures like Bill Clinton and Hunter Biden when facing their own serious allegations. That is not equal justice. That is a system producing wildly different outcomes depending on which political team the defendant plays for.

The broader implications are also terrifying for Republican politicians. Under New York's expanded legal framework, virtually any accusation, regardless of how thin the supporting evidence might be, can now generate enormous financial liability. Meanwhile, Democratic figures face no comparable legal jeopardy.

So the Carroll verdict stands. The $88 million price tag stands. And whether any conservative justice on the Supreme Court actually wanted to examine this case remains a total mystery, buried behind an anonymous order with not a single dissent on the record.

That deafening silence from the court's conservative wing is not exactly a confidence booster for anyone hoping the legal system treats all defendants the same way.
