Nothing says "stable elected official" quite like hopping on social media to drop an expletive-laden threat against federal law enforcement officers. Rhode Island State Rep. Enrique Sanchez, a Democrat, recently blessed his X account with a post promising ICE agents that a "day of reckoning" was headed their way, complete with a lovely profanity for punctuation.
As The American Tribune reported, Sanchez also openly admitted in the same post that dealing with immigration enforcement has, in his own colorful words, messed him up mentally. He wrote that trying to protect "hundreds and hundreds" of community members across Rhode Island from ICE operations since last year has taken a toll on him. And apparently, the way he chose to cope was by threatening federal agents on the internet. Therapy exists, sir.
Perhaps the most fascinating part of this whole saga is that the post is still up. Not deleted. Not walked back. Just sitting there on his profile like a badge of honor, which strongly suggests he sees absolutely nothing wrong with what he wrote. Bold strategy for a guy whose job title starts with the word "Representative."
This is far from his first rodeo with inflammatory anti-ICE rhetoric. According to Breitbart News, Rhode Island's state Republican Party demanded Sanchez be censured back in 2025 for his relentless, often violence-tinged attacks on ICE. The GOP also called him out for showing up at protests where he allegedly tried to provoke federal immigration officers and interfere with their operations. He reportedly has a habit of calling ICE agents "Nazis" and "thugs," because nothing screams nuanced political discourse like comparing law enforcement to history's greatest monsters.
Oh, and let's not forget that Sanchez also got popped for driving under the influence in February 2026. But thanks to some convenient behind-the-scenes deal making, he walked away with a guilty plea to a minor charge and basically zero consequences. Must be nice to have connections when you're busy being a lawmaker who apparently struggles with both the law and sobriety.
For context, the American Immigration Council, a left-leaning organization, notes that immigrants comprise nearly 15 percent of Rhode Island's population while representing 17 percent of the state's labor force.
Naturally, the comment section under his post turned into an absolute circus. Conservatives flooded the replies with support for ICE and President Trump's immigration agenda. One user suggested the FBI might want to take a peek at the post. Another helpfully reminded Sanchez that ICE has existed far longer than his political career. Someone else pointed out that a self-deportation app literally exists for people who want to avoid encounters with immigration enforcement.
