More than 150 fired-up residents of McKinney, Texas packed their town council chambers on Saturday night. So many people registered to speak that they literally spilled into the hallway, forcing staff to delay the entire meeting just to process all the sign-ups. Every single one of them came to push back against plans by the Islamic Association of McKinney to build a brand new 5.5-acre campus that could hold up to 2,000 people at once. They pleaded, they argued, they got emotional. And then the council voted unanimously to greenlight the expansion anyway, as USA Journal reported.
Let that sink in. Unanimous. Not a single dissenting vote.
Congressman Keith Self, who represents Texas' 3rd District, kicked things off with a statement that left zero room for interpretation. He brought up child marriage and honor killings, then told the crowd not to pretend those things couldn't happen in their community. The audience leaped to their feet in applause.
An Iranian Christian woman took the microphone next and dropped a bombshell of personal testimony. She described herself as someone who survived living under Sharia law in Iran and called the ideology being welcomed into McKinney flat out dangerous.
But the most jaw-dropping claim came from a local resident who pointed out that the association's own imam holds leadership positions within the Islamic Tribunal of the Dallas area. According to the Texas Attorney General, that specific organization has attempted to supplant actual courts, impose Sharia rulings on disputes involving Texas Muslims, and misrepresented its decisions as legitimate judicial orders. That is not some vague hypothetical fear. That is documented behavior tied directly to the group that just got the green light.
Former McKinney Mayor George Fuller stood up to support the expansion. The crowd booed him relentlessly and some called him a traitor. His argument centered on the Muslim community being part of McKinney for years and its families contributing to local life. That may well be accurate, but it conveniently sidesteps the specific concerns about tribunal leadership.
Meanwhile, on CNN Sunday morning, Congresswoman Nancy Mace brought the national angle into focus. She warned that American granddaughters could end up forced to wear burkas at school and said that prospect terrified her as a woman. She also connected several dots the mainstream press refuses to touch. Zohran Mamdani campaigned alongside an unindicted co-conspirator from the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Abdul El-Sayed ran with Hasan Piker, who publicly stated America deserved the September 11th attacks. And New Jersey recently discovered 6,600 noncitizens sitting on its voter rolls.
The residents of McKinney saw all of this clearly. They showed up in droves. They made their voices heard. And their elected council completely ignored every single one of them.
That is the real scandal here. And whether or not the national media touches it, this exact scenario is playing out in towns across America right now.
