A man has been charged in connection with a shooting that may have sparked a wave of gun violence in Asheville. Nineteen-year-old Marqua Amryie Lamar Davis faces charges related to the Maple Crest Apartments shooting on July 5, including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or seriously injure, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, injury to personal property, and carrying a concealed gun.
According to the Asheville Police Department, he has been held at the Buncombe County Detention Center since Thursday. This week, police reported that a recent deadly mass shooting on Biltmore Avenue was retaliation for the Maple Crest incident.
On Friday, authorities also confirmed recovering a Glock switch, a device used to illegally convert a handgun into a machine gun, and said those involved in both shootings knew each other.
