Marine Vet Who May Be World's Fastest Gun Disarmer Wins CO GOP Primary

Victor Marx, a Marine Corps veteran who is apparently the fastest gun disarmer on the planet (a title I did not know existed but now desperately want to see defended on live television), just won the Republican primary for governor of Colorado. Marx defeated state Sen. Barbara Kirkmeyer in a nailbiter that took days to sort out after the June 30 election, as The American Tribune reported.

Kirkmeyer had the full backing of the GOP establishment, which in Colorado apparently carries the same weight as a participation trophy. A third candidate, state Rep. Scott Bottoms, finished behind both of them.

Marx is described as a "high-risk humanitarian" and deeply devout Christian who founded All Things Possible Ministries. According to his campaign website, he has led more than 150 high-stakes missions in some of the world's most dangerous regions, including one into ISIS territory to rescue kidnapped girls. His resume reads less like a gubernatorial candidate and more like the back cover of a Tom Clancy novel.

Then there is the interview that put Marx on the national radar. According to NBC News, Marx revealed during a rather controversial sit-down that his abusive stepfather forced him to kill a man when he was just 7 years old. FOX 4 also covered that revelation. He then went further, saying he may have killed others. "I've been in other situations where, possibly, people or persons died as a result of me defending myself in other countries," he stated. When the reporter followed up and asked, "Do you think that you've killed people as an adult?" Marx replied, "Does it matter?" That is likely a reference to his military service, but as a campaign soundbite, it is certainly one way to distinguish yourself from the field.

Kirkmeyer, to her credit, issued a gracious concession that included one of the better political zingers in recent memory, signing off by saying, "I'm still proud of the campaign we ran ... and, for the record, I still haven't killed anyone."

Marx posted a victory video on July 9 thanking supporters and extending an olive branch to those who voted against him. "If you're frustrated, skeptical, or wondering if anything can actually change," he stated, "I just proved it by winning the primary."

Now comes the hard part. Marx faces Democrat Phil Weiser, Colorado's two-term attorney general and former dean of the University of Colorado Law School, in the November general election. Weiser won his own primary by defeating Sen. Michael Bennet while running an extremely anti-Trump, anti-establishment campaign. A Republican has not held the Colorado governor's mansion in over 20 years, and Kamala Harris carried the state by more than 10 points in 2024. So Marx has his work cut out for him, though if anyone is used to operating in hostile territory, it might be the guy who walked into ISIS land to rescue people.
