Hold onto your seats, political junkies, because this one is absolutely wild. A former spokesperson for Jill Biden just crossed enemy lines and threw his weight behind a Republican candidate for Senate in Michigan. Yes, you read that correctly.

Michael LaRosa, who once served as the top communications guy for the former First Lady, stunned the political world by publicly backing GOP nominee Mike Rogers over Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, who carries the backing of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Here is where it gets even juicier. LaRosa's so called "endorsement" was literally just one word. He shared a quote from Democratic strategist Julian Epstein announcing support for Rogers, then typed "SAME" underneath it. That single word set the entire political internet ablaze.

The Rogers campaign clearly loved every second of it, replying with open arms: "Welcome to the team, Michael!" LaRosa then reposted that reply, making his position crystal clear.

But oh, the backlash came in hot. A full day later, LaRosa fired off a lengthy response dripping with sarcasm, calling himself "genuinely flattered" that a one word social media post turned into a political firestorm. He reminded everyone that he holds no public office, commands no voting bloc, doesn't even cast a ballot in Michigan, and was basically just tweeting out of boredom as a political hobbyist.

"Nobody asked me to support anyone, sign anything, speak up, or get involved," he wrote, practically laughing at the chaos he created.

But then LaRosa got serious. He made it abundantly clear that he could never get behind El-Sayed, calling Rogers a "reasonable" Republican. He specifically criticized rhetoric he considers "corrosive, antisemitic, and dangerous," and took a shot at El-Sayed for lacking the courage to confront commentator Hasan Piker.

So who exactly is Michael LaRosa? He held the role of Jill Biden's chief communications person from January 2021 through July 2022, simultaneously serving as a special assistant to President Joe Biden. Before that, he traveled with Jill Biden throughout the entire 2020 campaign and transition period. His resume also includes producing for MSNBC's "Hardball," handling communications for the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and working within House Democratic leadership.

After leaving the administration, he pivoted into lobbying and public affairs work while moonlighting as a political commentator. Notably, he has previously taken public swipes at the Biden White House's internal culture and media operations.

The fact that a lifelong Democrat who literally worked inside the Biden orbit is now publicly backing a Republican Senate candidate tells you everything about the fractures ripping through the party right now. Michigan just became the most fascinating Senate race in the country.
