The Biden family is going through it right now, and Hunter Biden just pulled back the curtain on what's really happening behind closed doors.
In an emotional sit-down with BBC Newsnight published Friday, Hunter got choked up talking about his 83-year-old father's deteriorating health. According to Conservative Brief, Hunter revealed that the former president's prostate cancer has metastasized into his bones and beyond, calling the situation painful and debilitating to witness.
"The cancer has spread, metastasized into his bones and further," Hunter told interviewer Paddy O'Connell. "It's really sad to watch."
Here's the part that really hits you in the gut. Hunter said he wishes his old man would actually complain about it more, because the reality of his condition is grim. Joe Biden apparently refuses to let on just how rough things have gotten. Classic tough guy move, but also deeply concerning for a family watching someone they love suffer in near silence.
The former president disclosed his aggressive prostate cancer diagnosis back in May 2025, just months after vacating the White House. Doctors noted at the time that the disease appeared to be hormone-sensitive, giving them some treatment options to manage its progression.
Despite this alarming update, Hunter insisted his father keeps himself engaged and continues paying attention to national affairs. "He's still doing his thing," Hunter said. "He so believes in this country." Former first lady Jill Biden echoed that sentiment during a June appearance on "The View," admitting things have slowed down for her husband while noting he stays busy.
But the interview wasn't just about cancer. Hunter opened up about his well-documented addiction to crack cocaine and other substances, and he dropped a bombshell admission when asked whether his personal demons made his father's life and health worse.
"Of course I did," he said bluntly. "That's what addiction does."
Hunter credited his survival to one thing above all else. His dad never shut the door on him. While Joe Biden held his son accountable, he always made it clear that redemption was available whenever Hunter was ready to walk through it.
Hunter also pushed back hard against the popular notion that addicts need to hit rock bottom before they can recover. He pointed out that most people he knew who actually reached that point ended up dead or incarcerated.
The conversation also touched on that fateful June 2024 presidential debate against Donald Trump. Hunter recalled watching from California and being "shocked" at what he saw, saying he knew immediately something was off. That disastrous performance ultimately fueled pressure from Democrats that led Joe Biden to exit the 2024 race on July 21.
Since leaving office, the former president has kept a low profile, delivering occasional political speeches and working on a memoir expected around the November midterm elections.
The Biden family has endured tremendous loss already, including the 2015 death of Joe Biden's eldest son Beau from brain cancer at just 46 years old. Now they face another brutal chapter together.
"Unconditional love doesn't mean love without consequences," Hunter reflected. "It doesn't mean love without accountability."
