JD Vance is apparently living rent free in the heads of his own party members, and his team is basically laughing about it. According to a recent report, the Vice President is dealing with what his allies are calling a full blown coordinated operation from inside the Republican Party to torch his 2028 presidential chances before anyone has even printed a campaign bumper sticker.
The so called "Never Vance" crowd has been working overtime on social media, lobbing accusations that he is "unfit" for office because of his pursuit of peace negotiations with Iran. Some have even compared him to Barack Obama and Bernie Sanders, which is really the political insult equivalent of calling someone both too hot and too cold at the same time. Others claim he is somehow working against Trump's agenda, though they apparently forgot to bring any evidence to that particular party.
Here is the truly hilarious part. Despite all this online sound and fury, it has accomplished absolutely nothing. Vance's polling numbers among Republican voters have barely budged. His favorability essentially mirrors Donald Trump's, which means the attackers spent all that energy for the political equivalent of screaming into a pillow.
Vance's team told The Washington Post that much of this assault looks coordinated rather than grassroots, with multiple allies confirming that assessment anonymously. They pointed out that some accounts pushing for Marco Rubio in 2028 appeared to be run by people who are not even in the United States. Nothing says "authentic Republican grassroots movement" quite like foreign IP addresses.
The latest eruption came after Vance sat down with Joe Rogan for a nearly three hour interview on July 15. During the conversation, he called himself a "reasonable moderate" on questions about U.S. relations with Israel and referenced reporting about a paid pro Israel influence campaign allegedly orchestrated by a former Trump campaign official. His response to being targeted by paid influencers? "Well, go to hell." Poetry.
That interview predictably set off another wave from commentators including Ben Shapiro, Marc Thiessen, and Batya Ungar Sargon, plus a bunch of smaller accounts whose anti Vance posts mysteriously gained traction at suspicious speed.
Conservative commentator Steve Cortes summed it up by noting that loud establishment voices in Washington create an online cacophony but do not remotely reflect what actual Republican voters think. One Vance ally was even more blunt, saying it was "obvious to anyone with an IQ above 70" that the whole thing was totally inauthentic.
Jon Schweppe of the American Principles Project posted a chart showing Vance's favorability holding steady and then watched as dozens of critical replies poured in from accounts that did not follow him, even though no major account had boosted the post. Totally normal behavior from definitely real people.
Meanwhile, Rubio has publicly stated he would back Vance if he runs, which makes this whole operation feel like throwing a surprise party that nobody asked for and the guest of honor already left the building. A Vance spokesperson said the VP remains focused on delivering wins for Americans and is not losing sleep over social media drama. Imagine spending months orchestrating an attack campaign and the target's official response is basically, "Who are you again?"
