Republicans are feeling themselves right now, and honestly, Democrats might be giving them reasons to. According to Fox News co-host Kayleigh McEnany, the left's sprint toward progressive politics is basically a wrapped present with a bow on top for the GOP heading into the 2026 midterms, as Conservative Brief reported this week.
During a segment on Outnumbered, McEnany pointed out that the party of "when they go low, we go high" has apparently relocated to the gutter. She referenced a quote about going to the gutter when opponents go low, noting that Michelle Obama's famous catchphrase seems to have been completely abandoned. McEnany wasn't even sure those lofty ideals were ever genuinely practiced, but at least Democrats used to pretend.
The real comedy gold, though, came from what Democratic senators reportedly told The Hill. Apparently one senator warned that colleagues would "get hammered" for cooperating with Republicans. Another source close to Senate Democrats said they could have secured enough votes on certain measures if people weren't "terrified of being sent to the guillotine" by their own progressive base. Nothing says healthy party dynamics like your elected officials being so scared of their own voters that they shut down the federal government for over a month and can't even get military families their paychecks.
McEnany tied this fear directly to the progressive energy fueling candidates like Zohran Mamdani, arguing that Democrats are so paralyzed by their left flank that governing has become secondary to survival.
Meanwhile, on the money front, RNC Chairman Joe Gruters hopped on Breitbart to deliver what might be the most surprising plot twist in recent political history. Republicans could actually outspend Democrats this cycle. Yes, you read that correctly. The party that traditionally gets outgunned financially is sitting on roughly $800 million collectively, while Democrats are looking at approximately $350 million. The DNC itself reportedly has negative $4 million in reserves, while the RNC is holding about $125 million cash on hand. Gruters also mentioned a pending court case regarding coordinated campaign spending limits that could amplify that advantage even further.
Not to be left out of the victory lap, House Speaker Mike Johnson went on Fox and Friends to remind everyone about the "Big Beautiful Bill" and working family tax cuts. He acknowledged that the Iran situation created some economic turbulence but promised that once things settle, gas and grocery prices would come back down because of reduced transportation costs. Johnson declared that kitchen table issues will determine the midterm outcomes and said he's "absolutely convinced" Republicans will grow their majority.
So basically the GOP strategy going into 2026 is to let Democrats scare themselves into paralysis while Republicans count their unprecedented cash pile. Whether this confidence ages like fine wine or like milk left on the counter remains to be seen.
