Florida Republican Maria Salazar apparently woke up one morning and decided that the United States military simply cannot function without the help of undocumented immigrants. Bold strategy, let's see how that plays out.
As reported by The American Tribune, Salazar has been pushing her "Dignidad" amnesty bill, which would allow roughly 15 million undocumented migrants currently living in the U.S. to remain here legally. Her pitch? Without these folks propping up our economy, we can't afford guns, and if we can't afford guns, we're sitting ducks. That's literally what she said. "Let them stay. Let them continue contributing to the number one economy in the world, so we can continue being the number one military in the world. We don't have the economy, we don't have the guns, and we cannot defend ourselves."
So to recap, a Republican congresswoman just sided with Democrats and told the entire country that America is helpless without amnesty. Somewhere, a bald eagle just shed a confused tear.
Brietbart pushed back on this whole premise, noting there's barely any evidence that 15 million undocumented immigrants or the 40 million legalized migrants already here have meaningfully boosted national security. Instead, the outlet argues that migrant workers and consumers are essentially being used as tools to inflate the consumer economy while corporations ship manufacturing, tech jobs, and critical databases overseas to China and India. And Salazar's bill? It would supposedly accelerate that entire process by flooding the labor market with low wage workers.
Here's where it gets extra spicy. Salazar previously acknowledged that part of her bill's purpose is providing business groups with "cheap labor," including donors from her home state of Florida. During a press conference on Capitol Hill back in April 2026, she essentially owned it. She rattled off a grocery list of industries begging for workers, including agriculture, construction, hospitality, healthcare, manufacturing, and even dairy farming. "We all like milk, right?" she asked. Ma'am, this is a legislative debate, not a Got Milk commercial.
She also pointed out that around 80 percent of undocumented people in the country are Hispanic, calling them part of her community and the fastest growing minority in America. Her solution? "Let them stay, those who do not have a criminal record."
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance have taken the opposite position, arguing that the economy should prioritize efficiency over importing more workers. Vance put it bluntly earlier in the month, saying that giving corporations nine low wage migrants to compete against regular Americans isn't exactly a pro worker policy. He also went on a tangent about offshoring industrial jobs and Wall Street turning every asset into an investment vehicle, which he says created "a generation of kids who are attracted to socialism." His conclusion? A more restrictive immigration policy actually gives American workers more bargaining power.
