John Fetterman is out here acting like a man who accidentally wandered into the wrong party and now refuses to leave, but also refuses to stop insulting the decorations. The Pennsylvania Senator, a lifelong Democrat, went on the attack again Friday with a social media post that was basically a middle finger aimed directly at the Democratic Socialists of America, as Conservative Brief reported.
His post on X was beautifully simple in its pettiness: "Israel keeps killing Hamas members. @DemSocialists, cry harder." That was it. No further elaboration needed. The post came after the Israeli Defense Forces announced they had taken out several Hamas terrorists, including Abdallah Jahja from Hamas' Naval Force who had infiltrated Israeli territory on October 7, along with Mohammed Al-Hawari, a cell commander, and Sabhi Saqallah, an observation operative, both from Hamas' Zeitoun Battalion.
Fetterman had already been on Fox News telling host Kayleigh McEnany that "these DSA people are deeply anti-Israel" and "deeply anti-America," which is the kind of sentence that probably made a few progressive staffers spit out their oat milk lattes. He also declared himself the last person standing in the Senate Democratic caucus who is unapologetically pro-Israel, which sounds less like a political stance and more like the tagline of an action movie nobody asked for.
Here is where things get really spicy. Fetterman actually laid out a specific condition under which he would bail on the Democratic Party entirely. If opposition to Israel becomes an official plank in the party platform, he is gone. That is the first time he has drawn such a clear line in the sand.
His colleagues are apparently sweating about it, too. One anonymous Democratic senator told NOTUS that the possibility of a surprise party switch genuinely concerned them. Nothing says party unity like your own members whispering nervously to reporters about defection.
Then there is the fundraising situation that has everyone's eyebrows doing gymnastics. Fetterman created a joint fundraising committee with Republican Senator Dave McCormick from Pennsylvania. Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland said he had never witnessed anything like it. Meanwhile, progressive Rep. Chris Deluzio, who is openly flirting with a 2028 primary challenge against Fetterman, called the whole arrangement "crazy stuff" and accused him of basically helping Republicans raise cash to defeat Democrats.
Fetterman shrugged the whole thing off, telling the Washington Examiner it was "nothing sinister" and just about shared interests between two senators representing the same state. Sure, totally normal, nothing to see here.
The guy votes with Democrats on most legislation and nominations, but his positions on Israel, border security, and Iran have turned him into a walking headache for progressives. He seems to genuinely enjoy poking them, most recently going after progressives who backed a candidate named Platner in Maine's Senate race. At this point, Fetterman is basically a Democrat in name only who keeps showing up to family dinners just to start arguments.
