Europeans at World Cup Can't Stop Praising America

Nothing warms the American heart quite like a foreigner showing up and admitting we were right all along. A video from Turning Point USA's Frontlines team, as Trending Politics reported, asked European visitors in the U.S. for the FIFA World Cup a simple question: what's your favorite part about the United States? The answers were so complimentary you'd think we paid them. We did not. We just gave them air conditioning.

That's right. Air conditioning was apparently the breakout star of America's 250th birthday celebration. "Oh yes! 100%! We love air conditioning!" the tourists said, reacting to climate control the way most people react to meeting a celebrity. For a continent that spent centuries building magnificent cathedrals and perfecting wine, it turns out all they really wanted was to not be sweaty indoors. Welcome to the promised land, friends.

But the compliments didn't stop at temperature regulation. Visitors gushed about America's scenery, food, safety, and most of all, the people. One visitor marveled at the landscape, saying, "From where I live, it's all green. You've got a hillside, and all this is like skyscrapers, but it's just amazing because it just goes for miles and miles and miles." Another summed things up with the kind of review that belongs on a tourism brochure: "Amazing. I've been here several times now. Love it. Great city, great culture, very friendly. The Guinness is good. Drinks are good, yeah."

A visitor from the United Kingdom even threw his own countrymen under the bus, joking that Americans are "a lot more friendly than British people." Bold statement from someone whose nation invented the art of politely ignoring strangers on public transit.

Then came the food reviews, which were less Michelin Guide and more expressions of shock and awe. "We've experienced very big portions when it comes to food, that's for sure. We've not gone hungry for the whole time we've been here, that's for sure," one visitor said. Another simply marveled at "the portion sizes, huge slices of pizza!" Look, we don't do things halfway here. If you wanted a sensible meal, Paris is that way.

Perhaps the most thoughtful response came from a European who had actually studied in the U.S. and already knew the deal. "I think it's the people. I mean, it has to be," he said. "The social dynamics that you have here with random people, we don't really have in Europe. And as an extroverted guy, I prefer it. And that's why I studied here. That's why I love this country."

The interviews were conducted as America hosted World Cup fans from around the globe while simultaneously celebrating 250 years of existence. The whole thing fits neatly into a growing trend of viral clips showing Europeans losing their minds over everyday American conveniences like free refills, customer service that involves actual smiling, and gas station snack aisles longer than some European highways.

So to our European guests: you're welcome. The AC will be on when you get back.
