DSA Publishes Platform That Reads Like a Constitution Shredder

The Democratic Socialists of America have gone ahead and written down their entire wish list, and as USA Journal reported, it reads less like a political platform and more like a to-do list for someone who lost a bet about how fast you can dismantle a republic. Abolish the Senate. Grant full amnesty to every illegal alien. Defund the military. Replace the presidency and the Supreme Court with bodies that answer to Congress alone. So basically, take every guardrail the Founders installed and toss them into a wood chipper. Cool, cool.

The platform envisions a unicameral legislature with unlimited authority and zero institutional checks. No independent executive. No independent judiciary. Just one big room full of legislators with nobody around to tell them no. If you have ever attended a homeowners association meeting, you already know why this is a catastrophically terrible idea.

Now, you might be tempted to write this off as the scribblings of some fringe group handing out pamphlets at a farmers market. Except DSA candidates just won Democratic primaries in New York and Colorado. Their ideology is the engine driving the progressive caucus that holds serious leverage in the House. The mayor of New York City shares their worldview. This is not a basement operation anymore.

The DSA's core belief is essentially that direct, unfiltered majority rule produces virtuous outcomes every single time. Which sounds great until you remember that James Madison spent a considerable portion of his career explaining why that exact idea is a disaster. Madison understood that tyranny does not require a crown. A simple majority that controls everything and answers to nothing can be just as oppressive as any monarch.

That is precisely why the Founders built the system the way they did. The House sits closest to the people. The Senate is one step removed. The presidency is further still. The Supreme Court is the furthest of all. Successive layers of insulation between raw popular impulse and the exercise of government power.

Now look at what the DSA wants to eliminate. Not the House, the institution most responsive to majority will. They want to destroy the Senate, subordinate the presidency, and neuter the Supreme Court. In other words, every single institution specifically designed to protect the rights of the minority from a fired-up majority. That is not a coincidence. That is the whole ballgame.

Every flavor of socialism eventually arrives at the same destination: concentrated power with nothing standing in its way. The DSA is just being refreshingly transparent about the route. They know the Constitution is the wall between them and everything they want, so they published a platform that amounts to a demolition permit dressed up in the language of democracy and equality.

The Founders had a name for this. They called it the tyranny of the majority, and they designed an entire system of government to prevent it. The DSA just told everyone, in writing, that they want to tear that system down. When someone publishes their playbook, the polite thing to do is read it.
