Bubba Wallace Posts July 4th Unity Message, Gets Roasted by Everyone

NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace, the man who once summoned the full weight of the FBI to investigate a garage door pull rope that turned out to be exactly that, decided to share his thoughts on American unity this Fourth of July. As The American Tribune reported, the results were about as smooth as a stock car on three tires.

Wallace posted his message on X, opening with, "250 years. This country is beautiful, complicated, and a work in progress. Which is a massive privilege, and is exactly what makes it so great." He then encouraged fans to get more involved in pushing for change, writing, "The freedom to use our voices, challenge the status quo, and responsibility to shape the future can easily be taken for granted."

He wrapped things up with a call for togetherness: "You don't have to agree with someone to have the same pride in the country we share. Real progress happens when we realize staying unified is bigger than our differences. USA!"

Now, on paper, that is about as controversial as a greeting card from the clearance rack at Target. But context is a funny thing. Wallace became a lightning rod in conservative circles back in 2020 when he reported what he believed was a noose hanging in his garage stall at Talladega Superspeedway. The FBI investigated and determined the rope had been there long before Wallace was assigned that stall and was simply a garage door pull. The incident nonetheless kicked off a wave of changes at NASCAR, including the banning of Confederate flags at events, which left a sizable chunk of the fan base feeling like their sport had been hijacked.

So when Wallace talks about unity and staying bigger than our differences, some folks have questions. And boy, did the comment section deliver.

One commenter went straight for the jugular: "You actually tried to start a racial conflict over a freaking rope on a garage door. You didn't give a damn that it was a lie. Now you have the nerve to say staying unified is bigger than our differences? You called an entire fanbase racist. What a joke."

Meanwhile, from the other direction, one commenter wrote, "I don't think it's worth celebrating July 4th. It really is white people freedom and that's it. I celebrate Juneteenth as that is the real freedom for all but I get what you are saying."

Another added, "I have no pride in the USA nor have I ever celebrated this holiday. I am loyal only to my family and friends but I respect everyone's right to love their country and to not love their country whichever they choose."

So Wallace managed the rare feat of uniting people who agree on absolutely nothing else in their shared annoyance with his post. In a way, that is unity.

Not everyone was hostile, though. One fan recalled Wallace visiting their school seven years ago and talking about dedication and hard work, even recounting how they asked Wallace to play Fortnite with them (he politely declined). That person remains a fan to this day.

Give Wallace credit for one thing: posting a bland, greeting card level message about America on Independence Day and somehow turning the entire internet against you takes a special kind of talent. Most drivers just post a flag emoji and call it a day. Bubba went full TED Talk and caught strays from every direction. Happy belated Fourth, everyone.
