Alexander Vindman just lost his Florida Democratic Senate primary by 12 points to a socialist with a pink megaphone.
The former Army intelligence officer, who played a central role in Donald Trump's first impeachment proceedings, poured roughly $16 million into his campaign. His opponent, state Rep. Angie Nixon, spent about $1 million. Nixon, a card-carrying member of the Democratic Socialists of America, cruised to a 56-44 victory as reported on August 19, 2026. Sixteen million bucks got Vindman absolutely nothing.
So who exactly did the Democrats just nominate to challenge Republican Sen. Ashley Moody in November? Buckle in. Nixon is a 42-year-old Jacksonville lawmaker whose policy wish list reads like a DSA bumper sticker collection. Abolish ICE. Medicare for All. Rent control. Slash aid to Israel. She literally ran around the Florida House floor earlier this year screaming into a pink megaphone in footage that immediately went viral.
Moody herself posted the megaphone clip with a single caption that said it all. She called Nixon the Democratic nominee for Senate in Florida and added two words that will haunt the left through November. "Not a joke."
Nixon's victory speech on CNN was pure political theater. She told anchor Laura Coates that she planned to "whoop" Moody and insisted viewers would soon be calling her Senator. Coates' body language during that declaration was absolutely priceless. Even a friendly interviewer could not hide her reaction to that bold proclamation.
Republican operatives are already salivating. The National Republican Senatorial Committee immediately circulated a clip of Nixon defending drag shows as family entertainment. In the video, Nixon says there is nothing sexual about drag performances and proudly states she has brought her own children to them, calling it wholesome entertainment. That footage is going to blanket Florida airwaves for the next 77 days.
Here is the brutal political reality. Florida has shifted hard toward Republicans over the last decade. No Democrat has captured a statewide office since 2018. The governor's mansion has been in GOP hands since Lawton Chiles left in the mid 1990s. Republican voter registration leads keep widening. Trump posted his largest 2024 victory margin in the Sunshine State.
And now Democrats are asking that same electorate to send a DSA socialist to Washington.
This is what happens when activist primary voters pick ideologically pure candidates who have zero appeal beyond the base. The DSA playbook works great in low turnout primaries packed with true believers. General elections are an entirely different animal.
Ashley Moody is sitting prettier than any incumbent in America right now. Nixon's pink megaphone footage is basically a self-generating Republican campaign ad. Chuck Schumer just watched his party hand away a Senate seat before November even arrives.
Vindman burned through $16 million and got torched by a woman wielding a bullhorn. Politics really does not get more entertaining than this.
