Well folks, the Boebert family drama just cranked up to a whole new level.
Tyler Jay Boebert, the 21-year-old eldest son of Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert, was hauled into custody on Sunday by Garfield County authorities on some extremely serious felony charges. As initially reported, the young Boebert is staring down five felony counts connected to the alleged sexual exploitation of a minor.
Here is what investigators are alleging. Tyler Boebert reportedly filmed himself engaging in sexual intercourse with a girl who was under 18 at the time, then allegedly distributed that recording. He was reportedly 18 when this supposedly happened. The girl was 17. Court documents lay out three counts of sexual exploitation of a child, plus two additional counts tied to contributing to a minor's delinquency.
The whole thing apparently started back in 2024 when tips came through Colorado's Safe2Tell program. Investigators spent more than two years digging into explicit videos that were allegedly circulated on social media before finally slapping Boebert with these charges.
He was booked into the Garfield County jail on August 9 and walked out that same day after posting a $10,000 surety bond. His next court date is set for August 19.
Now, if you are thinking this sounds like a familiar pattern, you are not wrong. Tyler Boebert already has a rap sheet that reads like a greatest hits album of bad decisions. Back in February 2024, he got pinched for allegedly breaking into vehicles and swiping credit cards in Garfield County. He cut a plea deal in that case and is still waiting to be sentenced. On top of that, he pleaded guilty in a 2025 child abuse case out of Weld County. Sentencing for that one lands on September 4, with the vehicle break-in sentencing following on September 10.
So let's do the math. This young man is now juggling three separate criminal cases at once. That is quite a legal portfolio for someone barely old enough to rent a car.
His mother released a brief statement following the arrest. The Colorado Republican said she loves her son and acknowledged how serious the allegations are, offering prayers for everyone involved.
Meanwhile, Rep. Boebert is actively campaigning for another term representing Colorado's 4th Congressional District. She relocated politically before the 2024 election after previously holding a seat in the state's 3rd District, ultimately winning the heavily conservative 4th District. She is currently facing Democratic challenger Eileen Laubacher.
The timing could not be worse for the congresswoman's reelection bid.
To be clear, Tyler Boebert has not been convicted on these new charges. Every allegation remains just that until proven in a courtroom. But with five felony counts hanging over his head and two other cases already in the sentencing phase, this situation is anything but simple.
