The President of the United States took valuable time out of his busy schedule to publicly demand that a cable news network fire one of its commentators, and honestly, we wouldn't expect anything less at this point.
Donald Trump hopped on Truth Social Thursday to absolutely torch longtime Republican strategist Karl Rove, calling him a "sloppy RINO" and telling Fox News to "put Karl Rove out to pasture, NOW." As The American Tribune reported, the president accused Rove of having a "completely inoperable" case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, which sounds like a medical diagnosis you'd get from a doctor who earned his degree on Truth Social.
For those unfamiliar, Karl Rove was a top White House adviser under George W. Bush before settling into his current gig as a Fox News contributor. You probably recognize him as the guy who brings a handheld whiteboard on television to break down polling numbers and voting trends, because apparently in the year 2025, we still can't get this man an iPad.
Trump wrote that Rove has been wrong about him and the MAGA movement for 11 straight years, which, if nothing else, is an impressive streak of consistency. The president signed off his post with the most beautifully absurd closing in political communication history: "Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT." That reads like a strongly worded letter to your HOA, except it's about firing someone from television.
Nobody seems entirely sure what specific Rove commentary triggered this particular meltdown. The Hill noted it wasn't immediately clear which remarks set Trump off. But Rove has repeatedly questioned Trump's rhetoric and political approach, including after the State of the Union address earlier this year when Rove said the speech "didn't sound based in reality." So apparently reality is now a partisan talking point. Great.
This whole saga perfectly captures the ongoing civil war between Trump's populist wing and the old consultant class that ran the Republican Party before he showed up and flipped every table in the room. Rove represents that pre-Trump era of politics where strategists used data and whiteboards. Now the party runs on vibes and social media posts written entirely in capital letters.
The funniest part of all this is Trump's complicated relationship with Fox News itself. He's praised certain hosts while simultaneously attacking the network's polling, election coverage, leadership, and contributors. He's even hired several former Fox personalities for administration positions. So basically, Fox News is like a restaurant where Trump loves the steak but keeps calling the manager to complain about the waiter.
Trump closed by calling Rove a "LOSER" who will always remain one, which is definitely the kind of measured, presidential language that George Washington envisioned when he stepped down from power. Whether Fox News actually listens to this request remains to be seen, but something tells me Karl Rove's whiteboard isn't going anywhere just yet.
