Nothing says "everything is totally fine" quite like the President of the United States threatening to hunt people down and throw them in prison for talking about missile inventory. But here we are in 2026, and that is exactly what happened this week.
As Conservative Brief reported, a pair of anonymous sources told CBS News that America has burned through nearly its entire supply of Army Tactical Missile Systems and Precision Strike Missiles during the conflict with Iran. Reuters had previously claimed the U.S. expended "virtually all" of its long range precision missiles during Operation Epic Fury. Trump, naturally, responded the way any calm and collected leader would, by firing up Truth Social and promising lengthy prison sentences.
"The U.S. has massive amounts of munitions," Trump wrote, adding that defense companies are constructing more plants and factories than ever before. He also noted that large quantities are being manufactured and shipped as needed. Then came the kicker, the part where he promised to track down the people responsible and pursue "long term jail sentences." Just your standard Thursday post from the commander in chief.
Meanwhile, the actual numbers paint an interesting picture. A July report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies estimated that Patriot missile interceptor stockpiles dropped from roughly 2,330 before the Iran conflict to somewhere between 759 and 827. THAAD interceptors fell from about 452 to between 234 and 278 by late July. And according to a separate analysis, getting back to pre war levels at current production rates might not happen until mid 2029. So basically, we will be fully restocked right around the time the next presidential election heats up. Convenient timing.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell pushed back on the doom and gloom, insisting that America's military remains the most powerful on Earth and possesses a "deep arsenal of capabilities." War Secretary Pete Hegseth called the whole thing a "manufactured story" that the media was eager to push, telling CBS News back in June that stockpiles are "great and only getting stronger."
As if one allegedly fake story was not enough, another report claimed Trump exploded at his advisers, including Hegseth, during a Cabinet meeting at Camp David last month. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt jumped on that one, tweeting that she was physically present at Camp David and that the incident "literally never happened." She accused someone of shopping the story around to multiple outlets in an effort to make Hegseth look bad, adding that Trump actually thinks the Secretary is doing a "tremendous job."
So to recap the current state of affairs: anonymous sources say the missiles are running low, the administration says everything is fantastic, a think tank has receipts suggesting the stockpiles took a significant hit, and the President wants to imprison whoever is talking about it. Just another perfectly normal week in American politics.
