President Trump was in a celebratory mood after two of his most prominent political adversaries suffered humiliating defeats in New York City's congressional primaries, and he wasted no time rubbing it in on Truth Social.
As The American Tribune reported, three progressive candidates who have staked out strongly left-wing positions on immigration enforcement, policing, and border security swept their respective primary races in New York City. Given the deep blue nature of those districts, they are virtually guaranteed to win their general elections.
But Trump was far more interested in who lost than who won.
Rep. Dan Goldman, who played a central role in Trump's impeachment proceedings, was soundly defeated by Brad Lander, a candidate backed by New York City Public Advocate Zohran Mamdani and widely considered to be among the most progressive figures in the race. Trump could barely contain his glee.
"Weak and pathetic Congressman Dan Goldman just lost, BIG!" Trump wrote on Truth Social. "I guess people didn't like him illegally targeting President TRUMP. In any event, this jerk is finally GONE!"
Not satisfied with one post, Trump followed up with another in which he called Goldman a "major Slimeball" before offering a backhanded expression of sympathy. "Even though he tried unsuccessfully to prosecute me, and despite the fact that he is a major Slimeball, I feel sorry for FORMER Congressman Dan Goldman," the president wrote.
Trump then seamlessly transitioned to his other favorite target of the evening: George Conway, the conservative lawyer turned vocal Trump critic and ex-husband of former Trump counselor Kellyanne Conway. Conway's primary bid was an unmitigated disaster, and Trump made sure everyone knew it.
"Wow, Mr. Kellyanne Conway, a Trump Deranged Loser at the highest level, is getting absolutely CRUSHED in the Primaries tonight," Trump posted. He predicted Conway would finish with roughly 5% of the vote, adding, "No wonder his 'husband' dumped him like a dog! This is a truly unattractive person, both inside and out. Have a nice life, George!"
In a separate post, Trump lumped Goldman and Conway together, painting a picture of both men "wandering aimlessly" through "a large field of Dumocrat Communists, trying so hard to find his way."
Beyond the personal jabs, Trump also used the results to make a broader political argument. He noted that the victorious candidates in these blue state primaries were, in his characterization, far to the left of the American mainstream.
"Many Communists running in badly failing Blue States," Trump wrote. "The bad news is that history has conclusively shown that the downtrodden States that they will soon be running will ONLY GET WORSE. MAGA!"
Trump also took a shot at Mamdani's influence in shaping the outcomes, sarcastically congratulating him for pulling "3 solid Communists" through their primaries. He then contrasted Mamdani's endorsement record with his own, claiming a 16-0 record on the same election night and boasting a two-year endorsement track record of 259 primary wins with "almost no losses."
The media, Trump complained, gave Mamdani's endorsement success widespread coverage while ignoring his own. "Zero media attention," he wrote. "FAKE NEWS."
