Trump himself confirmed the wild aircraft swap on Tuesday, telling reporters he actually believed the plane HE flew on carried greater risk. Douglas Birkey from the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies raised the possibility that concerns involved advanced heat seeking missiles capable of locking onto hot aircraft engines. He specifically mentioned the Iranian SA-67, which reportedly uses heat seeking and laser guidance technology. These weapons are particularly terrifying because they do not necessarily give off detectable radio signals and "can kind of come out of nowhere," Birkey explained.
Only a tiny group accompanied Trump during the covert transfer. White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino, executive assistant Natalie Harp, and Oval Office operations director Walt Nauta rode along in that catering truck with the leader of the free world.
