Trump Declares U.S. Controls Strait Of Hormuz, Shuts Down Iran Talks

Trump just declared there are zero negotiations happening with Iran. Period.

The president dropped a Truth Social bomb on Tuesday that left absolutely no room for interpretation. He confirmed the naval blockade remains fully active, the Strait of Hormuz is operational, and every single water mine has been cleared or blown up. No diplomatic fluff. No gentle language. Just a commander in chief telling the world that America runs the show now in one of the most critical waterways on the planet, according to reports.

Let that sink in. About 20% of the globe's oil supply flows through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran planted mines there. The U.S. military yanked them out or detonated them. And now Trump is essentially treating the whole waterway like it belongs to America in every operational sense.

The numbers from CENTCOM tell the story even louder. As of August 17, American forces have rerouted 64 commercial ships, disabled 3, and physically boarded 2 others to keep the blockade locked down tight. Admiral Brad Cooper, the CENTCOM commander, just wrapped up a 10 day trip through the Middle East and called the Lincoln Carrier Strike Group's current deployment one of the most intense and consequential in modern military history. That is not some throwaway quote from a Pentagon briefing. That is a top brass officer telling everyone this is a historic moment.

Trump also posted a map of Iran on Truth Social, and the visual screams the same message his words did. The administration is operating as though the Strait of Hormuz is an American controlled zone. Not Iranian territory. Not some neutral international passage where Tehran gets to throw its weight around. American territory in every practical military sense.

Meanwhile, the people on the other side of this standoff are truly something else. Iran's freshly installed Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaee, previously ran the IRGC and has openly floated the idea of using nuclear weapons against America. He still publicly fantasizes about Trump's demise and an American defeat. Iranian officials have even claimed they already have assets and assassination teams positioned inside the United States.

And yet, some folks in Washington still want Trump to sit down at a table with these people. Four House Republicans joined Democrats trying to constrain the president through a war powers resolution. The DSA calls Iran a victim of American imperialism. You truly cannot make this stuff up.

For three decades, every president before Trump played the same game with Iran. Appeasement, then sanctions, then negotiations, then more sanctions, then more negotiations. Every single time, the result was the same, just with additional centrifuges spinning.

Trump apparently decided the game itself was the problem. No conversations scheduled. Blockade holding strong. Mines eliminated. U.S. Navy helicopters hovering over cargo ships in what Tehran once considered its own backyard. Whatever you think of the strategy, nobody can accuse the man of being subtle about it.
