U.S. Marshals tracked down one of two 16-year-old suspects charged in the fatal shooting of Penn State senior William "Billy" Schmidt, finding him hiding out at a distant relative's house in Colorado Springs. Because apparently when you are wanted for murder, fleeing halfway across the country to crash at a cousin's place is the best plan your brain can cook up at 16.

As Trending Politics reported, Azzubair Outen-Fleming was taken into custody on July 1 by the U.S. Marshals Service Colorado Violent Offender Task Force. According to the Marshals' Philadelphia office, he even tried to deny his identity when they showed up. Bold strategy for a kid whose face had been plastered across surveillance footage and social media for weeks.

Outen-Fleming faces charges including murder, criminal conspiracy, robbery, and illegal possession of a firearm. He is currently housed at the Zebulon Pike Youth Center awaiting extradition back to Philadelphia.

The tragedy unfolded on June 6, 2026, around 1:30 a.m. on the 1900 block of Durfor Street in South Philadelphia, just yards from Schmidt's family home. The 22-year-old had been out watching an NBA Finals game with friends at a nearby bar and was walking home. That is the most normal, harmless activity a college senior could possibly be doing. The suspects allegedly robbed Schmidt of his cell phone, and surveillance footage captured the horrifying sequence: one suspect throwing the phone, Schmidt chasing after the other individual, and then being shot once in the chest. Schmidt was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. His father later found his son's phone under a car and turned it over to police.

Let that sink in. A father found his murdered son's phone under a car on the street where he grew up.

Philadelphia police issued arrest warrants for both Outen-Fleming and co-suspect Kaiseem Smith, also 16, on June 30. The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office announced charges against Smith on Sunday and against Outen-Fleming the following Monday.

Outen-Fleming's stepfather, 35-year-old Donte Abdulmalik, was also arrested on July 1. He faces charges of hindering apprehension, obstruction of justice, and tampering with evidence after investigators determined he helped transport his stepson out of Philadelphia. Abdulmalik was also wanted on a separate parole or probation violation. Father of the year material right there, helping your kid flee a murder charge while you are already on the wrong side of the law yourself.

The investigation relied heavily on surveillance footage from the neighborhood, which captured the entire sequence of events. Authorities had also offered a combined $25,000 in rewards for information leading to arrests.

Kaiseem Smith remains at large as of this writing and has been described as armed and dangerous. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Philadelphia police at 215-686-TIPS or the U.S. Marshals Philadelphia Tipline. A young man lost his life walking home from watching basketball. The least the public can do is pick up the phone.
