The massive produce supplier has yanked a slew of jalapeño products off shelves over potential Salmonella contamination, according to reports. This is the SECOND major recall for the company in just weeks, after tainted iceberg lettuce connected to a cyclospora outbreak was already pulled.
Here's the juicy part. The contamination traces right back to a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, who supplied jalapeños to Coast Citrus Distributors. When Coast Citrus flagged a Salmonella risk with its fresh peppers, Taylor Farms' parent company Taylor Fresh Foods had to act fast and pull its own prepared products that contained those very same jalapeños.
We're talking guacamole, pico de gallo, taco dip, and more. Products that were shipped to retail distribution centers across a whole bunch of states. And the retailers involved? Oh, just some tiny little stores you may have heard of: Kroger, Target, Walmart, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Stop & Shop. The affected items carry best by dates all the way through August 16, 2026.
Both the FDA and CDC are now investigating a multistate Salmonella outbreak linked to those jalapeños from Coast Citrus. Taylor Fresh Foods says it cut ties with the Mexican grower responsible and switched to alternative suppliers. The company also claims it has no knowledge of anyone actually getting sick from its specific products. Time will tell on that one.
If you bought any recalled items, toss them immediately. Do not eat them. You can grab a refund where you originally purchased them. Salmonella typically causes diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps within hours or a few days.
