Paul Pelosi Hits Parked Car With Maserati, Drives Off

Paul Pelosi, the 86-year-old husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is facing a misdemeanor hit and run charge after he allegedly rammed his brown Maserati convertible into a parked car in Napa Valley and then just drove away like nothing happened. The man has a Maserati convertible and apparently zero idea what he hit with it, which is a combination that should concern everyone within a five-mile radius.

According to The American Tribune, the incident happened around 2:30 pm in the town of Yountville. A witness said Pelosi slammed into a legally parked and fortunately unoccupied vehicle, causing "major rear damage" and pushing the parked car onto the curb before motoring off into the Napa afternoon. Deputies from the Napa Valley Sheriff's Office later found his damaged Maserati blocking a nearby roadway after it apparently became too broken to continue its escape. He just left it there.

When deputies spoke with Pelosi, he told them he had hit something while driving but did not know what it was, so he kept going. That is certainly one approach to the situation. Not a great one, but an approach nonetheless.

The good news, if you can call it that, is that alcohol was not involved this time around. "The investigation also determined that no alcohol (.00 on Preliminary Alcohol Screening Device) was detected upon testing, therefore Driving Under the Influence was ruled out," the sheriff's office said, as Fox News Digital reports. This is a notable improvement from May 2022, when Pelosi pleaded guilty to misdemeanor drunken driving causing injury. So at least the man is sober now. Progress.

Authorities apparently suspect that age may have played a role in both the crash and the questionable decision-making that followed, because the sheriff's office is submitting a re-evaluation referral to the California DMV. This is reportedly standard procedure when elderly drivers are involved in these types of incidents. Pelosi was not arrested at the scene, and the case has been referred to the Napa County District Attorney's Office for potential prosecution.

The Pelosi family issued a statement that managed to entirely sidestep the whole misdemeanor charge thing. "Mr. Paul Pelosi has personally apologized to the owner of the vehicle and assured them that he would take responsibility for the damage to their vehicle," a family spokesperson said. The statement then added, "Speaker Pelosi will not be commenting further on this private matter."

Nothing says "private matter" quite like obliterating a parked car with a Maserati on a public street in broad daylight and then abandoning your luxury vehicle in the middle of the road. Real discreet stuff.
