Only 10 Of 212 House Democrats Signed A Pro-Capitalism Pledge

Hold onto your seats, folks, because this one is an absolute jaw-dropper. A pair of centrist Democrats passed around a simple statement to every single Democratic member in the House of Representatives. The key phrase? "We are capitalist, not socialist." Five words. That's it. And as reported, a staggering 202 out of 212 members flat out refused to put their name on it.

Let that sink in. Only TEN Democratic House members had the guts to sign something so absurdly basic. That is a whopping 95 percent of the caucus running away from five of the least controversial words in American political history.

This wasn't some trick question on a survey with sketchy methodology. Nobody can cry about biased polling here. These are actual sitting members of Congress who were handed a piece of paper and asked to confirm something most Americans would consider common sense. And the overwhelming majority simply could not do it.

The statement was part of a bigger package called the "Promise to America" effort, organized by moderate Democrats trying to claw their party back from the grip of the Democratic Socialists of America. Other commitments in the pledge included gems like "We want safety, not lawlessness" and "We are proud, not ashamed of America." Vanilla ice cream has more edge than these statements. Yet 202 members still ran for the hills.

And who's gloating about this development? None other than Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez herself. She hopped on a radio show and actually went after the ten brave souls who signed, criticizing them for lacking a real vision. Her exact argument? That democratic socialism is basically the only wing of the party offering anything affirmative. She wasn't even trying to hide it. She sees the takeover as a good thing.

This basically confirms what many have suspected for years. The Democratic Party now belongs to AOC, not to leaders like Hakeem Jeffries or Chuck Schumer. The progressive wing isn't just influential anymore. It IS the party.

But here's where it gets really interesting for Republicans heading into 2026. Recent primary results showed that DSA candidates consistently underperformed compared to their polling numbers. One candidate who led by 12 points in polls barely squeaked out a one-point victory. Another who was up by 22 points actually LOST by a single point. The progressive left looks way more dominant on paper than it actually is at the ballot box.

In a general election, where the voter pool extends far beyond the ideologically committed base, that gap between perceived strength and actual strength becomes a canyon.

Republican strategists should be treating this pledge story like political gold. Every GOP candidate running in a competitive district should mail that five-word statement directly to their Democratic opponent. Put it in a television spot. Ask them on camera whether they'll sign it. Make them answer publicly.

Because 95 percent of their own colleagues already gave us their answer. And it wasn't pretty.
