New York City's mayor has a brand new tabloid nickname, and honestly, it fits like a glove.
Zohran Mamdani, the activist turned mayor who always seems to be grinning for the cameras, apparently transforms into a completely different person behind closed doors. More than twelve elected officials, consultants, and political insiders spilled the tea to the New York Post, and what they revealed is absolutely wild. The Post slapped him with a devastating Thursday cover headline. "Mayor Zoflake."
Let that sink in.
According to these sources, Mamdani simply cannot tolerate even the tiniest bit of pushback. He reportedly phones up elected officials to gripe whenever someone publicly questions him. He nurses petty grudges against anyone bold enough to say something he finds unfavorable. And those unfortunate souls who cross him? They allegedly get shoved to the back of every line unless Mamdani suddenly needs a favor.
Here is where it gets really juicy. After an alleged antisemitic stabbing rocked the city, Jewish leaders asked him to stop inflaming tensions. A totally reasonable request from a terrified community. Mamdani's response? He reportedly picked up his phone and called at least one elected official to whine about being told to cool it down.
Then there is the Queens Borough President situation. Donovan Richards posted on X calling the DSA "white supremacy," touching on genuine friction between that organization's largely white activist membership and the minority communities it claims to champion. Mamdani allegedly pressured Richards to delete the post. One City Council member summed it up perfectly. "He's so thin-skinned and reads everything."
A Democratic operative went even further, saying his phone is basically a security blanket and he lives for the dopamine hit from social media likes.
Remember, this guy built his entire campaign on people power and democratic participation. Yet he apparently melts down over a critical social media post from a borough president.
And then came the Staten Island disaster. On Tuesday, roughly 3,500 people at National Night Out Against Crime started chanting "go home" while Mamdani stood at the microphone. He lasted about 60 seconds before walking away. That moment perfectly captured the enormous canyon between how Mamdani views himself and how actual New Yorkers perceive their mayor.
The list of troubles keeps growing. Getting booed by police officers. Failing to deliver on grocery store promises. Reportedly doxxing property owners. Walking away from pledged subway fare and childcare initiatives.
This was supposed to be a revolutionary mayor who would transform the biggest city in America. Instead, New Yorkers got a guy who apparently crumbles at negative press coverage and spends his evenings making complaint calls.
The permanent smile stays plastered on for every camera. The whiny phone calls happen when nobody is watching. The grudge list grows longer by the day.
Mayor Zoflake is only getting started, folks. Buckle up, New York.
