As The American Tribune reported, Musk is dusting off America PAC, the super PAC that burned through over $260 million during the 2024 cycle to help get Donald Trump elected. This time around, the target is keeping Republicans in charge of Congress during the November 3 midterms.
The revived operation will zero in on conservative voters who tend to stay home when there's no presidential race to get excited about. You know the type. They'll camp out overnight for a rally but can't be bothered to vote for their local congressman. America PAC plans to drag them to the polls through door knocking, digital ads, and good old fashioned direct mail. During 2024, the group claims its volunteers pounded on over 10 million doors across more than half a dozen battleground states, which honestly sounds like a cardio program disguised as a political campaign.
Here's where it gets truly ridiculous from a financial standpoint. Republican committees and super PACs already reportedly hold a combined cash advantage north of $300 million over Democrats, and Trump's MAGA Inc. super PAC is sitting on another $400 million. Tossing Musk's wallet into the mix is basically the political equivalent of bringing a flamethrower to a birthday candle lighting. His reps declined to say exactly how much he'll spend this cycle, but considering his 2024 contributions made him the single largest individual political donor in one election cycle in American history, nobody's expecting him to chip in twenty bucks and call it a day.
Chris Young, Musk's top political adviser, will run the show, and the group plans to coordinate with other GOP organizations rather than going rogue. James Blair, a senior political adviser to Trump, called the PAC's comeback "a huge boost for Republicans across the country" and said the party intends to execute an aggressive turnout strategy heading into Election Day.
Of course, this heartwarming reunion comes after a rather awkward chapter. Musk spent four months running the Department of Government Efficiency, then publicly bashed the spending in Trump's "big, beautiful bill" and even floated the idea of launching a third party. Because nothing says team player like threatening to start your own team. But the relationship eventually thawed, and by the end of 2025, Musk was already writing checks again, including a $10 million donation to Kentucky Republican Senate hopeful Nate Morris. Morris then ditched the race to take a gig in the Trump administration, which is a pretty expensive way to discover your candidate was a flight risk.
America PAC spokesman Andrew Romeo said the broader Republican apparatus has built an operation capable of staying competitive in what's traditionally a tough environment for the president's party. So basically, the GOP's midterm strategy boils down to one simple formula: when in doubt, add more Musk money.
