Mexican Batman Duct-Tapes Motorcycle Thieves to Poles

Somewhere in Jalisco, Mexico, a vigilante who has earned the nickname "Mexican Batman" is out here doing more effective law enforcement than the people who actually get paid to do law enforcement. And naturally, the police want to arrest him for it. You really cannot make this stuff up.

As The American Tribune reported, it all kicked off in mid-June 2026 when five men were found duct-taped to streetlights where police and early morning commuters could enjoy the view. But this was not just your standard tape job. The alleged thieves had whiskers painted on their faces and the word "Rata" (rat) written on their foreheads. Behind them hung a large pink poster accusing them of stealing a motorcycle and warning them to knock it off. Pink. The man chose pink. That is an artistic choice and I respect it deeply.

Mexican journalist Luis Cardenas noted that "after the lack of help from the authorities," the hero had taken down a total of five thieves in just 10 days. Photos from June 17, 2026 show two 18-year-olds bound in gray tape with their mouths covered and faces decorated. A 23-year-old was found the same day. Another man was discovered similarly constrained with yet another motorcycle theft accusation attached.

According to The Daily Caller, the State Security Secretariat confirmed that the motorcycles left beside the taped-up suspects had indeed been reported stolen. They also noted that motorcycle theft had taken a "sizable tumble" over time. Weird how that works. Almost like consequences are a deterrent or something.

Of course, the State Attorney General's Office has launched an investigation into both the captured robbers and the vigilante himself. Police want to arrest Mexican Batman for violating the rule of law, according to the New York Post. Law enforcement says they have identified two vehicles possibly connected to the incidents. One of the alleged thieves was left bloodied and bruised, so this is not exactly a gentle citizen's arrest program.

The internet, predictably, has crowned this person a folk hero. "Why are the police chasing him? Give him a medal," one commenter wrote. "If the government doesn't enforce the law, then vigilantes will take over and it isn't always pretty," another noted. One person pointed out, "Well, at least someone is actually trying to do something in Mexico to get rid of crime, since the Federales are basically bought off by the cartels." Another commenter kept things in perspective: "At least he's not hanging their severed heads off overpasses. Yet."

And my personal favorite: "Mexican Joker has finally met his match!"

Look, nobody is officially endorsing vigilante justice here. But when your vigilante is solving more crimes than your police department and motorcycle theft is actually dropping, maybe the conversation should be less about catching Batman and more about why Batman felt the need to suit up in the first place.
