Nancy Pelosi is wrapping up her congressional career after nearly four decades in Washington, and Kevin McCarthy wants you to know those years were apparently very loud.
The former Republican House Speaker sat down with Fox News host Jesse Watters this week and shared some memories about his time dealing with Pelosi that paint a picture of someone who ran the House like a substitute teacher who had absolutely zero patience left. According to McCarthy, Pelosi would routinely holler at Republicans and basically tell them they had no business being present.
Watters showed a graphic titled "How Each Side Views the Other," which claimed that conservatives generally see liberals as children while liberals see conservatives as savages. McCarthy loved this comparison so much he practically adopted it. He connected it to what Donald Trump has famously dubbed "Trump Derangement Syndrome" and said Pelosi embodied the attitude perfectly.
"She would yell at me sometimes," McCarthy recalled, which is honestly the most relatable thing about being in Congress. He also complained that magnetometers were installed to screen members before entering, which he characterized as an effort to keep Republicans out. For those unfamiliar, magnetometers are those metal detection devices used at security checkpoints. They became a big talking point after testimony revealed Trump was frustrated that Secret Service screening at his rally on January 6, 2021, was limiting crowd size because attendees had to pass through them.
McCarthy, who hasn't announced any plans for a political comeback, went on a mini philosophical tangent about civility in American politics. He lamented that people can no longer disagree without being disrespectful, which is a beautiful sentiment from someone whose party literally called the other side children two sentences earlier.
"Republicans respect the other side," McCarthy insisted with a straight face. "We just thought you were children. We had hope that they would grow up one day." Nothing says respect quite like comparing your colleagues to toddlers who might eventually mature.
And if you think Pelosi's temper is exaggerated, there's recent evidence to the contrary. Back in June, Lindell TV reporter Alison Steinberg approached Pelosi on Capitol Hill to ask about why she blocked the National Guard during January 6. Pelosi's response was essentially a masterclass in telling someone to go away. She told Steinberg to "shut up" for "spouting untruths," informed her she wasn't a real journalist, referred to her boss Mike Lindell as "the pillow man," and told her to get lost. Pelosi even encouraged the camera crew to keep rolling so people could witness the exchange.
So basically, Pelosi's retirement means Capitol Hill is about to get a whole lot quieter. McCarthy is probably already sleeping better knowing he won't get yelled at anymore, and somewhere Mike Lindell is clutching his pillow, still processing being called "the pillow man" on camera by a former Speaker of the House.
