Marketing Guru Tells MSNBC Host Why Voters Keep Dumping Democrats

There is nothing quite like watching someone ask a question and then immediately regret the answer. That is basically what happened on MSNBC NOW when host Stephanie Ruhle asked marketing executive and political commentator Donny Deutsch why American voters keep refusing to rally behind the Democratic Party, as The American Tribune reported. She was hoping for some nice chat about messaging strategy. What she got was a guest telling her, on her own network, that Democrats have lost their minds.

Ruhle set it up by noting that even though voters say they are unhappy with President Trump, they keep leaning Republican. She asked Deutsch whether a bad economy by November could change things and whether Democrats need to fix their messaging on the economy. "For whatever reason, Republicans still seem to have this stronghold that, 'We're good for business,'" she said.

Deutsch did not sugarcoat it. "Well, Democrats have gone off the rails," he said. "They're not even focused. What matters to people is affordability, and Democrats right now are focused on two things: They're focused on Anti-Semitism and Socialism."

Ruhle jumped in with the classic panic interruption: "Not all Democrats." Deutsch waved it off, agreed it was not literally every single Democrat, and then kept going. He pointed to two recently elected candidates, one of whom allegedly would not acknowledge that a firebombing at a vigil for hostages held by Hamas was antisemitic, and another in New York who was reportedly at an October 8th pro-Palestinian rally. He was likely referring to Darializa Avila Chevalier and 29 year old Democratic Socialist Melat Kiros.

Then he really got rolling. "This is ridiculous. And they're both running on anti-American, socialistic, let's blow up, let's abolish ICE, let's abolish prisons, let's abolish everything, let's abolish the police. It's insane." He warned that Republicans will use these candidates like a gift basket, saying, "Right now, every Republican strategist is salivating on what these people have said in the past, and they're going to wallpaper with it."

Deutsch called the trend "a disaster, no matter what you think of it, wherever your politics are, it's bad strategy."

The funniest part is that Deutsch is not exactly a MAGA rally regular. This is a guy who does commentary on MSNBC. When the people on your own team's network are telling you the strategy is bonkers, that is what professionals call a sign.

For what it is worth, Pew Research Center data from May showed that both parties are about as popular as a parking ticket. Roughly 58 percent of Americans view the Republican Party unfavorably, and close to 60 percent feel the same about the Democrats. So basically the electorate is choosing between two things they do not like, and one side keeps finding new ways to make the decision easier for them.
