You know what they say: you can take the Hulk out of the Avengers, but you cannot take the rage out of Mark Ruffalo. The 58 year old actor showed up to the 83rd Golden Globe ceremony at the Beverly Hilton ready to smash, not physically, but verbally, directing every ounce of his frustration at President Donald Trump as reported by The American Tribune.
Ruffalo was there because he earned a nomination for best male actor for playing Tom Brandis in the film Task. Did he win? Nope. That honor went to Noah Wyle. But losing an award never stopped a Hollywood actor from winning the red carpet microphone, and Ruffalo seized his moment like it was an Infinity Stone.
First, he rolled up wearing a pin that read "Be Good," a nod to Renee Good, who was fatally shot after she attempted to run over an ICE officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was not alone in the gesture either. Natasha Lyonne and Wanda Sykes also rocked the same pins. Ruffalo told reporters, calling Good someone who was "murdered," and then pivoted directly into criticizing Vice President JD Vance, accusing him of "lying about what's happening."
For context, Vance had described Good's death as "a tragedy of her own making" at a press conference the following day and said that ICE officer Jonathan Ross "deserves a debt of gratitude" for performing "a very, very important job for the United States of America."
But wait, there's more! Ruffalo kept the engine running on his red carpet rant, telling reporters that the U.S. was "in the middle of a war with Venezuela that we illegally invaded" and that Trump was signaling to the entire globe that international law is meaningless to him. Then came the grand finale: "He's the worst human being in the world." Bold words from a guy who just lost to Noah Wyle.
Still not satisfied, Ruffalo added that relying on Trump's morality for the planet's most powerful nation puts everyone "in a lot of trouble." He referenced Trump's conviction on 34 counts of allegedly falsifying records in the hush money trial, plus sexual assault allegations going back to the 1980s that Trump has consistently denied.
The actor also dedicated his little pin to the "people in the United States who are terrorized and scared today," adding, "I know I'm one of them." Nothing screams terror quite like standing on a red carpet in Beverly Hills wearing designer threads and collecting award nominations.
He wrapped things up by saying he came to celebrate his nomination and that he was proud, but that things are "not normal anymore" and he couldn't stay quiet. Ruffalo has previously backed Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential race and has also shown public support for Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. So basically, this is a man who has been yelling at political clouds for nearly a decade now, and the forecast shows no signs of clearing up.
