Dozens of supporters dressed in pink gathered outside a Massachusetts courthouse to cheer on a woman who confessed to strangling her three kids.
Lindsay Clancy is currently standing trial for the January 2023 deaths of all three of her young children, whom she admitted to killing by strangulation before leaping from a second-story window in what appeared to be a suicide attempt. Despite that horrifying admission, a crowd of mostly women showed up outside Plymouth trial court on Thursday, August 20 to rally behind her, according to reports.
The scene was caught on camera by TPUSA Frontlines, and it is absolutely wild.
When a reporter asked the group what they would say to people who think Clancy should be convicted for taking the lives of her own children, one supporter responded with a straight face. She said she was grateful the questioner had never experienced what mothers go through during postpartum. Two other women nodded along in agreement.
Then another supporter dropped this jaw-dropping line. She acknowledged that Clancy confessed to the killings, but insisted the woman sitting in that courtroom today is a completely different person from the one who committed the act. She went on to say that people struggle to accept two seemingly contradictory truths at once, that Clancy could be both a "wonderful, loving mother" and someone who did something so horrific because she was severely ill. She claimed she watched testimony every day, could see how devastated Clancy appeared, and believed her completely.
Let that sink in for a moment. An admitted child killer is being called a wonderful mother by people who voluntarily showed up to court wearing matching outfits.
The group even held a moment of silence for Clancy while the trial was still in progress. Renee Kimball, who organized the gathering, told the Boston Globe that a mental health crisis is clearly unfolding and that other women obviously feel the same way. She said they came together to offer Clancy the support and peace she had been begging for but never received.
Clancy's defense team argues she was gripped by postpartum psychosis at the time and therefore cannot be held criminally responsible for what happened. Prosecutors, however, are pushing back hard. They contend that Clancy acted deliberately when she took the lives of her children and was not experiencing psychosis during the killings.
The trial has now stretched across four weeks of testimony, and closing arguments are expected to begin early next week. This is shaping up to be one of the most emotionally charged cases in recent Massachusetts history.
Regardless of where anyone stands on the mental health debate, three innocent children lost their lives. That is the fact that should never get lost in all of this courtroom drama and sidewalk cheerleading.
