The youngest press secretary in White House history already has her next gig lined up.
Karoline Leavitt, just 28 years old, confirmed Friday that she will be joining MAGA Inc., the Trump-connected super PAC, according to reports. She broke the news while chatting with journalists on Air Force One, casually dropping the bombshell like it was no big deal. "You guys will still see me all the time," she told the press pool. Translation: don't even think about counting me out.
So much for stepping back to focus on family life, right? Well, not exactly. Earlier this month, Trump revealed that Leavitt would be walking away from the podium at the end of August to spend more quality time with her two young kids. She welcomed a baby girl back in May and recently returned to work after that. But "stepping away" apparently just meant switching jerseys, not leaving the game.
This is actually a reunion of sorts. Before she became the face of Trump's 2024 presidential campaign as national press secretary, Leavitt served as a spokesperson for the very same super PAC. She also worked in the communications shop during Trump's first term. The woman has been in MAGA world since 2018. She practically has a lifetime membership card.
Leavitt got emotional when she first announced her departure, calling it "bittersweet" and admitting that juggling one of Washington's most grueling roles with motherhood was pushing her to the limit. "Being a mother and welcoming a new baby while working in one of the most demanding jobs in the world has been the most rewarding yet challenging season of my life," she wrote. But she made crystal clear that leaving the West Wing did not mean abandoning Trump. "My fight is entering a new phase, but it is far from over," she declared.
Trump himself was practically gushing. He called her "one of my most trusted aides" and said she performed "a phenomenal job" since joining his orbit. He even went so far as to label her among "the best White House Press Secretaries in the History of the Office." That is high praise from a guy not exactly known for handing out participation trophies.
VP JD Vance piled on the compliments too, highlighting her ability to handle a hostile press corps "with grace, wit and a smile on her face." Chief of Staff Susie Wiles called her "nothing short of extraordinary." Secretary of State Marco Rubio and FBI Director Kash Patel also chimed in with public kudos.
Now here is the juicy part that nobody in Washington can stop whispering about. As of Monday, Trump had not named a replacement behind that famous podium. The biggest communications job in American politics is sitting wide open heading into what promises to be a brutal 2026 midterm cycle. Meanwhile, Leavitt will be running the outside political operation for that exact same battle. Pretty convenient timing if you ask anyone paying attention.
