Julian Epstein Ditches Democrats For Mike Rogers In Bombshell Defection

This is not your average case of one disgruntled voter switching teams. This is full blown political mutiny, and the Democratic Party should be absolutely terrified right now.

Julian Epstein, a guy who literally spent decades as chief counsel for House Judiciary Democrats and staff director of the House Oversight Committee, just dropped a nuclear op-ed announcing he will back Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers in Michigan. Not only that, he is actively recruiting other Democrats to follow him out the door. As USA Journal reported, this exodus has all the makings of an absolute earthquake in Michigan politics.

But wait, it gets juicier. Michael LaRosa, who served as Jill Biden's spokesperson, is also jumping ship. LaRosa publicly declared he refuses to back candidates who lack the courage to confront extremists within their own ranks. He said he would never support someone just because they carry a D beside their name. That is a former White House insider torching his own side. Incredible.

These are not random suburban swing voters dabbling in bipartisanship. These are people who carry the institutional knowledge of the entire House Democratic caucus. They are walking away and bringing their donor contacts with them.

Another prominent Washington Democrat, choosing to remain anonymous, also voiced opposition to Abdul El-Sayed. He described himself as a lifelong party member focused on keeping harmful individuals out of Democratic politics and supporting good people in public service.

Regular Michigan Democrats are sounding off too. Voters have been caught on camera telling reporters at airports they plan to switch parties. One flatly stated they refuse to vote Democrat. Another expressed deep concern about what they called the socialist leanings of El-Sayed, drawing a clear line between liberalism and socialism.

The numbers tell an even uglier story for El-Sayed. CNN analyst Harry Enten pointed out that the Democratic nominee lost every single one of Michigan's 15 counties with the lowest share of college educated residents. His entire base lives in college towns. Unfortunately for him, Michigan as a whole is not a college town.

Now let's talk money. The Jewish donor community is reportedly pivoting hard toward Rogers. A Democratic fundraiser in Michigan said multiple large Jewish donors will absolutely be backing the Republican. The Republican Jewish Coalition is already running targeted outreach, calling El-Sayed a direct threat to Jewish communities in the state.

The contrast between these two candidates is staggering. Rogers spent years in counterterrorism work, including efforts that helped bring Osama bin Laden to justice. Meanwhile, El-Sayed ran a campaign that received backing from Hasan Piker, someone who publicly praised Mao Zedong, celebrated Hamas, and declared Israel has no right to exist.

Enten summed up the Democratic outlook by saying their chances have essentially sunk into Lake Michigan. The loyalists are bailing. The donors are crossing over. Working class voters never showed up in the first place.

Republicans have every reason to feel confident about this race. But politics has a funny way of turning easy wins into disasters, so nobody should get comfortable just yet.
