A local news anchor just broke up with his viewers on live television.
Joseph Olmo, who has spent roughly seven years covering the Washington D.C. region for NBC4 and Telemundo 44, casually dropped a career bombshell during Monday evening's broadcast. As Conservative Brief reported, the Annapolis, Maryland native waited until the final moments of the show, looked into the camera, and basically said "it's not you, it's me."
His exact opener was the classic fake-out: "I've got just one more story for you." Viewers probably expected a feel-good kicker about a dog rescue. Instead, they got a resignation letter delivered at broadcast speed. Olmo told his audience that the following night would be his last time pounding the pavement as a local reporter in the DMV area, wrapping up nearly a decade in the business.
Then came the philosophical portion of the evening. Olmo mused about having multiple dreams in life and how existence is too brief to reach the finish line wondering "what if." This man turned his goodbye into a motivational TED Talk, and honestly, it kind of worked.
He also gave local journalism a genuine love letter, arguing that nobody else would keep residents informed about their own neighborhoods. Fair point. Your Twitter algorithm certainly is not covering that water main break on Route 50.
Olmo made sure to shout out the army of unseen workers behind every broadcast, reminding viewers that "one means many" and that hundreds of people make each show possible. He thanked the entire NBC4 crew and everyone who tunes in. As for what comes next, he stayed mysteriously vague, only hinting that people who know him personally "will not be surprised" by his next chapter. So either he is launching a podcast, writing a book, or joining the circus. All equally plausible in 2026.
Meanwhile, over at Fox News, musical chairs continues at a professional level. Emily Compagno has been officially promoted to a permanent co-host position on The Five, starting September 8. She will sit alongside Greg Gutfeld, Dana Perino, and Jesse Watters. Harold Ford Jr. and Jessica Tarlov will keep rotating through the liberal seat, because apparently that chair comes with a revolving mechanism built in.
Compagno fills the spot left vacant by Jeanine Pirro, who departed Fox News back in May 2025 and went on to become U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. That is quite the career pivot, going from yelling on cable news to prosecuting federal cases.
The promotion also means Compagno is leaving Outnumbered, where she co-hosted since 2021. Fox has not yet named her replacement on that show, opting instead for a rotating cast of personalities. Basically, Outnumbered just became an audition tape factory.
Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott praised Compagno's energy and talent while noting The Five just celebrated 15 years on the air. The show pulled in an average of 3.6 million viewers during the second quarter of 2026. Compagno called getting a permanent seat on what she considers "the most fun show on television" an incredible privilege. She has been warming that chair as a rotating guest for years, so this is less of a surprise and more of a long overdue HR update.
