Jill Stein Hit With Arrest Warrant After No-Showing Court Date

A Missouri judge slapped Jill Stein with an arrest warrant for blowing off her court hearing. The 76-year-old three-time Green Party presidential hopeful was a total no-show at a St. Louis courtroom, and so was her lawyer, according to reports. The charges stem from a wild anti-Israel campus demonstration at Washington University that went completely sideways.

So what is Stein actually charged with? One count of first-degree trespassing and one count of fourth-degree assault. Not exactly a resume builder for a former presidential candidate.

But here is where it gets interesting. That warrant did not even survive the full day. Her attorney, Joseph Welch, hustled into court later that same afternoon and convinced Judge Karma Johnson to toss it out. The misdemeanor case got pushed all the way to September 14, 2026. Stein and every other person tied to the incident will absolutely need to show their faces in court next time around.

Now let us rewind to the protest itself, because this thing was a circus. Demonstrators started out in Forest Park, then marched onto the university's Danforth Campus. They eventually made their way to the John M. Olin Library, where people started pitching tents outside. Police repeatedly told the crowd to get lost. After a final warning that arrests were coming, protesters locked arms together and began chanting "hold the line" as officers moved in.

This is where Stein allegedly went full action hero. She reportedly grabbed a bicycle that belonged to a police officer. A second officer got involved, and that cop took a hit from the bike on his left forearm. Then, as the bicycle was being lifted, Stein allegedly kicked the second officer multiple times in his right leg, dangerously close to the groin area. That officer ended up with a strained forearm, a bruise on the back of his leg, and a groin injury. Yikes.

Video posted on Stein's own X account showed police taking her into custody and walking her away from the chaotic scene. Her campaign manager Jason Call and his deputy Kelly Merrill-Caye were also among those hauled away in cuffs that day.

St. Louis Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Price Smith made sure everyone understood the charges were not about politics. She emphasized they had nothing to do with free speech, assembly rights, or the subject of the Gaza protest. Smith stated these charges simply reflected her office's professional conclusion that sufficient evidence exists to prove criminal conduct beyond a reasonable doubt.

Some political career highlight reel this is turning out to be. Stein carried the Green Party banner in 2012, 2016, and 2024. Her peak performance was pulling roughly 1.4 million votes back in 2016, good for a whopping 1.07% of the national total. Now she can potentially add "missed her own court date" to that list of accomplishments. The next hearing is over a year away, so she has plenty of time to circle September 2026 on her calendar this time.
