A guy walked into a polling station, used a senator's brother's name, and was handed a ballot.
James O'Keefe, the undercover journalist who founded Project Veritas and now heads up O'Keefe Media Group (hilariously abbreviated as OMG), strolled into an Anchorage voting location during Alaska's primary election and told poll workers he was Brian Murkowski. As in, the brother of Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski. As The American Tribune reported, the worker looked up the name, found it on the rolls, and confirmed he was in the right spot to cast a vote. Easy peasy.
But here's where it gets truly spectacular. O'Keefe then mentioned he forgot his ID at home. The response from the poll worker? "Absolutely possible." Another staffer chimed in to reassure him that identification was completely unnecessary. "You can vote if you'd like to," they said, with all the casual energy of a barista asking if you want whipped cream.
O'Keefe did not actually cast the ballot, because he is not Brian Murkowski. The real Brian Murkowski doesn't even live in Alaska anymore. He's just chilling on the voter rolls like a gym membership nobody cancelled.
Not satisfied with one jaw dropping experiment, O'Keefe's crew ran the whole thing again at a different Anchorage polling place. This time a woman gave the name of Karina Waller, who happens to be Senator Murkowski's state director. No ID? No problem. The worker confirmed the registration and offered up a ballot like it was a free sample at Costco.
Now here's the delicious irony. Senator Murkowski is actively fighting against the SAVE America Act, which would require proof of citizenship to register and photo ID to vote. Her office told O'Keefe's team that she totally supports photo ID requirements and even voted for a separate measure on the Senate floor backing that idea. She just thinks THIS particular bill is too burdensome and impossible to roll out before the election.
Her press secretary, Joe Plesha, issued a statement calling the legislation "an overly burdensome, one size fits all mandate from Washington" that could disenfranchise thousands of eligible Alaskan voters. He also noted that voter impersonation is a crime and should be prosecuted fully. Which is technically true, but maybe a little awkward to say right after O'Keefe's video showed how laughably simple it would be to pull off.
Back in March 2026, Murkowski opposed even debating the bill on the Senate floor, despite a 51 to 48 vote to move it forward. She doubled down in July 2026, arguing it would hurt voters in remote Alaska communities.
The SAVE America Act would require a birth certificate or passport to register and a photo ID at the polls. Murkowski says she supports the concept but not the execution. Critics say that's like supporting exercise but opposing movement. Her stance has earned her the beloved political nickname RINO, which stands for Republican In Name Only.
Meanwhile, somewhere out there, Brian Murkowski has no idea a stranger almost voted on his behalf using nothing but his name and a smile.
