James Comey's Own Relative Called His '86 47' Post a Death Threat

A member of James Comey's own family told his wife the infamous seashell post was "a call for violence."

That's not coming from political rivals or cable news pundits. That's someone inside the Comey family circle, texting his wife Patrice directly and holding absolutely nothing back. Court filings from the former FBI Director's federal prosecution according to reports reveal the explosive message in full. The relative wrote: "You should be ashamed of yourselves. I am thoroughly embarrassed to have ever defended the absolute coward that is your husband. You and Jim are some of the least accepting, most hypocritical people I've had the displeasure of knowing. I hope Jim goes to jail for his crimes."

Coward. Hypocrite. Belongs behind bars. And that's from family.

But here's where it gets even juicier. The court documents completely torch Comey's claim that he had no clue what "86" meant when he arranged those seashells to spell out "86 47" and posted the image on Instagram. Two minutes before he uploaded that photo, his wife Patrice texted him a cropped screenshot showing the slang definition of "86," which means to get rid of someone or refuse them service. He saw the controversy surrounding the term. He posted the picture anyway.

Then came the family member's furious text calling it a violent threat. Comey deleted the post later that same day. So let's walk through the timeline here. Wife sends him the definition of "86." He uploads the seashell image spelling "86 47." A relative calls it a threat against the president's life. He scrubs the post. And somehow his legal defense is that the meaning of those numbers never crossed his mind. Good luck with that one.

Two citizens in Emerald Isle, one of whom works in law enforcement, flagged the post to local police as a presidential threat. Authorities clearly agreed it warranted attention. Now Comey faces two federal charges: knowingly and willfully threatening the President, and transmitting a threat through interstate commerce.

The layers of irony here are almost too thick to process. This is the guy who ran the entire FBI. He prosecuted federal cases for a living. He oversaw the Crossfire Hurricane investigation that turned the bureau's firepower on a sitting president. He launched a criminal probe into Donald Trump specifically because Trump exercised his constitutional power to fire him. That same man now sits on the other side of federal charges, with his own flesh and blood telling a court he deserves prison.

AG Todd Blanche put the situation in plain terms: "You cannot threaten the President of the United States. That's not my decision, that's Congress' decision, in a law that they passed, and so, yes, of course this is a serious case."

Comey built his entire public persona on the idea that nobody is above the law. He repeated that phrase like a mantra for years. Now the legal system he once commanded is pointing directly at him, and even the people closest to him aren't rushing to his defense. When your own family is texting your wife that you belong in a cell, the spin machine has officially run out of gas.
