Hillary Clinton Calls Socialist Takeover of Her Party 'Healthy'

Two-time presidential election loser Hillary Clinton thinks radical socialism is just fine, actually.

The former Secretary of State and First Lady showed up at a Council on Foreign Relations gathering in East Hampton on Monday to share her infinite wisdom about the current direction of the Democratic Party. When pressed about DSA candidates steamrolling through primaries, a communist-praising streamer basically picking Democratic Senate nominees, and the DSA co-chair openly declaring on television that she wants to eliminate the Pentagon entirely, Hillary had a fascinating one-word diagnosis. She called it an "experiment." As USA Journal reported, her exact quote was that the Democratic Party is "going through a kind of an experiment" and she believes "that's healthy."

Healthy. Like a juice cleanse. Or yoga. Except instead of downward dog, the party is doing downward spiral.

Let's appreciate this for a second. The woman who spent more money on a presidential campaign than anyone in history, running as the ultimate establishment centrist, just told a ballroom full of rich Hamptons liberals that candidates who want to abolish prisons, borders, the military, and the entire Senate are conducting a worthwhile exercise. She apparently draws the line at abolishing wealth, though. Funny how that works when you're chatting with the Council on Foreign Relations crowd over canapes.

It gets better. Someone asked what George Washington would think about all this. Hillary said he would be "heartsick," then immediately pivoted to blaming President Trump for every problem in American politics. She literally invoked the Founders' warnings about dangerous factions while simultaneously giving a thumbs up to the most radical faction her party has ever produced.

This is the same party that has a nominee in Michigan who says Israel has no right to exist, backed by a guy who speaks glowingly about Mao Zedong. But sure, George Washington would definitely be upset about the other team.

Bill Clinton built his entire brand on being a moderate. Hillary always drifted leftward from him, but describing a full socialist insurgency as a positive development is a whole new level of surrender. This is the political equivalent of watching your house catch fire and calling it "an interesting renovation opportunity."

The elder stateswoman of the Democratic Party had one job here. She could have been the institutional voice explaining to younger voters why socialism has collapsed in Cuba, Venezuela, and every other nation that traded liberty for government-controlled everything. Instead she basically patted the movement on the head and told it to keep going.

Ronald Reagan once cautioned that constitutional freedoms are always just one generation from disappearing. Hillary Clinton apparently heard that and thought it sounded like a fun experiment. From the comfort of the Hamptons, of course, where the abolish-wealth crowd never seems to point their pitchforks.

Washington would indeed be heartsick, Hillary. Just probably not for the reasons you imagine.
