Hakeem Jeffries Openly Declares War on the Supreme Court

Hakeem Jeffries wants to blow up the Supreme Court if Democrats take back Congress.

The House Minority Leader dropped this bombshell at the National Black Journalism Conference in Atlanta on Wednesday, as reported here, declaring that "dramatic Supreme Court reform is necessary" and that no option is off the table. Let that sink in. The man who would become Speaker if his party wins in November just went on camera and essentially confirmed what conservatives have been warning about for years.

And it gets juicier. Jeffries reportedly wants to hand the whole operation over to none other than Jamie Raskin. Yes, THAT Jamie Raskin. The congressman who led the second impeachment crusade against Donald Trump. The guy who sat on the January 6th Committee alongside Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. Raskin is about as far from an impartial constitutional scholar as you can possibly get while still holding a congressional seat.

So what is actually being cooked up here? The Supreme Court currently holds a 6 to 3 conservative majority. That majority has been issuing rulings that Democrats absolutely cannot stand, covering everything from abortion to firearms to agency authority. Rather than winning those fights through legitimate legal arguments, the apparent plan is to simply stack the bench. We are talking about adding four or five new liberal justices, ramming them through on party line votes, and turning the highest court in the land into a rubber stamp factory.

For 157 years, nine justices have served on the Court. That number has survived every partisan battle, every political earthquake, and even Franklin Roosevelt's infamous court packing scheme back in 1937. FDR's own party shut that power grab down because they recognized it for what it was. Pure overreach.

Fast forward to 2026, and the current Democratic Party apparently has zero reservations about finishing what Roosevelt could not. The progressive caucus reportedly put court expansion into a formal resolution. The Democratic Socialists of America co-chair went even further, calling for the Court to be abolished entirely.

Let's be crystal clear about the stakes here. The second you allow any political party to create new seats whenever they lose too many rulings, judicial independence is toast. Gone. Finished. What remains is basically a super legislature with lifetime appointments and no accountability to voters. Whoever controls the Senate when those seats get manufactured controls the Court. Period.

This is not some fringe proposal being whispered about in progressive chat rooms. The top Democrat in the House confirmed it publicly, on camera, at a major journalism conference. He named who would lead the effort. He refused to rule anything out.

November's congressional races just became about something much bigger than tax policy or spending bills. The very structure of one of America's foundational institutions is apparently on the chopping block, and the people planning to swing the axe are not being shy about it anymore.
